924 Turbo Transaxle G31 Snail 931

This is the dogleg 1st, 5 speed transaxle from the Series 1 Porsche 924 Turbo.

These use Porsche 915 *based* gears and syncros (and limited slip differentials). 915 LSD is a direct fit, but gears are indexed/helixed the other way, so standard 915 ones don't swap in. (Thanks Matt!)

But that is actually not the case. Certain parts are 915 based, but the gears all have the helix spinning the opposite direction. If you put 915 gears into one of these gearboxes you would be really fast...backwards.

The 915 LSD does fit in it, and I have some of the last NOS motorsports gearsets left in the world for them, but they are far from cheap.

Not trying to kill your sale, just making sure that accurate information is out there and someone doesn't buy it and then get pissed off at you when they can't regear it.

Thank you for the input - I would never want to mislead on a sale, so this is valuable information for myself and any potential customer!

What it *DOES* do for me, is make me think about using this in a Vanagon engine swap, to get 5 close ratio gears, flipped around the other way, so 5 in reverse becomes 5 forward. Now to just make a bellhousing/adapter setup...

They are great little gearboxes. I've got one that I've held off on selling because I can put the 7:31 ring and pinion into a 915 gearbox and throw it into my midengine 914...
