90 s4 questions

I just replaced the factory radio with an aftermarket with aux input so I can use my OmniFi media player. I was just going to remove the factory amp and wire directly, but I couldn't figure out how to get power to the wires at the radio. Obviously, the amp is supplying the power from it's harness, but how can I bypass this, specifically?

Also, when I had the cover of the amp off, I noticed a very large, round plug with a cap on it. Removing the cap revealed about 20 plug holes, of which maybe 6-8 actually had connectors in them. What is this for?

I was in the spare tire area looking for somewhere to mount the OmniFi unit. I noticed that there was an unplugged connector that feeds up to the hatch lock cylinder. I also found another lock cylinder, with wiring, laying in the spare tire area. I assume that the cylinder has been replaced, which would explain why my key does not open the hatch and why my key does turn this cylinder.

1st, why would the cylinder need replaced if the key still operates it? I assume something electrical.

2nd, what is the unplugged connector to the hatch lock for?


Also, I noticed that when I run the A/C, the car seems very "boggy" and less responsive. Is this normal, or does some maintenance need to be performed?


Is it normal that I can't stop smiling when I'm driving this car?

Can't really help on the radio, one of mine had an aftermarket unit installed by the PO and the other still works; never been in there to look around.

Guessing on the hatch lock: the unplugged connector is likely the remote release or the feed for the alarm. Does the release work? The extra cylinder leads me to believe that it's likely an alarm problem, perhaps the PO purchased a non-alarm cylinder before he realized he could just unplug it? Again, guessing as neither of mine have the release or the alarm.

On my much lower HP '79, the A/C doesn't load the engine very much, I'd think it's either a state-of-tune prob with your engine or something in the A/C system needing service.

Sorry that's not much help, I've just not been around the later cars enough to know any of their quirks.

Perma-grin is the norm in a 928. :-)
