Sorry, not getting what the ninja star your talking about. Are you talking about the little black piece that needs to be removed from the new wire? You must discard this black piece.

Or this? The old wire is only held by the 2 screws, then it pulls out.

MPDANO showed just what it looks like....the Mayberry badge?? do you mean the vacuum advance? that stays on. i replaced my green wire along with the "pick up coil" inside the distibutor. this made a BIG difference! those old wires are very restrictive to electrical flow. i would suggest getting that pick up coil as well...pretty cheap...you dont have to remove the distibutor either.. but you do have to remove the vacuum advance to replace pickup coil..be careful not to damge little plastic connecting rod..take pictures to see what it looks like for when you put it back together.but be carefull pulling up and out..can be a bit tight and stubborn.( i let it soak in wd40)..youll probably find debri in there too.. these components are the equivilant to a crankcase timing sensor..so its important to be working properly for peak performance! good luck! Jim

True true. You don't need to remove your Distributor. Not sure why I did at the time, probably because I chasing a timing issue around the same time.

It's the language barrier we are having a hard time with. Let me know if this is what you are looking for.

STRANGE..i got a reply from you LFAUSTY...but its not showing on forum, well now i see what you mean by "sheriffs badge" yah, thats part of the distributors inner workings....this must be pulled out to replace the pick up coil. and to see the green wire plugs inner workings/connection..but not needed to remove JUST to replace green wire. Be very careful removing this piece..let it soak with WD40 or liquid wrench for a few hours...use a mini flywheel puller if you have one or gently tap on shaft with rubber mallet while prying up with screwdriver or similar tool. just be VERY GENTLE! ..the star shaped piece is bendable aluminum! I remember a quick pop and it released and eased right off...and i beleive theres a woodruff key there too so dont loose that!

OK..that rotor simpy pulls off, just pull straight up and itll pop off. remove the plastic cover and youll see the interior parts. I dont know what the OHMs would read for the green wire, but i can assure you after nearly 30 years its toast..get a new one AND the pick up coil mentioned before. beleive it or not the pick up coil can be found cheaply on parts websites and even ordred thru autozone ( in america!) but the green wire must be ordered from a porsche supplier like the sponsor here..pelican parts. I call it the $100 wire! LOL theres no getting around it check ebay too the cheapest youll find is $100! OR contact Mason at 928 w o r l d wide, but theyll be used and possibly just as burnt..new is the way to go. BTW where are you? outside the U.S.?--and nice toy collection in garage! -Jim

this one is for sure toasty - wanted to check it out and will , thanks.

i dont want to get near mine in 82 whole system there good newer and awesome running such a piss off that i munched a good wire, im gonna fix and run away from it......fast
thought id just take the 78 switch it out but it is brittle wire/connectors/ prob pretty beat and on the meter moving the wire its bouncing all kinds of readings. outside pin end male to out side female end 0 and inside to inside ends all kinds of readings. what would correct test and reading be?

finishing up wp and tb and mechanically / electrically a start-up soon.

I dont know what readings should be..probably not even mentioned in tech manuals............if you think you can repair the green wire just try soldering same gauge wire into broken wire. but remember the green wire is actually 2 wires within one insulator...tricky! those things are always toast..as are wiring harnesses and all that under the hood wiring. I would still find a new one! good luck!
