Why doesn't anyone tell these people how retarded they are? I recently saw one here in Arkansas that said "No low ballers, I know what it's worth". The car (944) looks to have been sitting and has an aftermarket body kit. He wants $5,000 for it. I wish someone would clue these unsuccessful car dealers in on the fact that cars are like airplanes or houses. They are only worth what somebody will pay for them. Most of these people got in too deep from the start.

If you are interested in the car, make your offer, otherwise just skip it. Generally best to ignore any opinions the seller has anyway, price, condition, etc. those are for you to decide.

way better deals turn up if you wait, that's for sure. I have seen a lot of cars pop up and were way over priced. after seeing them consistently relisted on craigslist i would finally make the call and see if a could get it cheaper. The problem with most of this cars is that someone inherits them and because it is a "porsche" they think it is worth its weight in gold. there are someaverage 944's listed in ct that ppl are asking 7grand for and they are not even turbo.

one thing i have noticed though.. if you're hunting craigs for a car, my best finds have been when i spelt porsche wrong... porshe, porsch, or porsche 928s, try variations. just typing each one will turn up much different results.

Send the seller the link to my '84 that just sold if you think a dose of reality might help. Doesn't sound like it will though.

He'll 'prolly say that since his has the optional auto trans it should go for more

Hahah we got a guy in VA on craigslist selling an 85 or 86 with a ugly repaint. At first it was dirt cheap, but then he got it running and now the price is 4500 one week 6000 another week, but its been on the list for about 3 -4 months. Crazy. I called when it wasnt running but I think he had a fuel pump issue.
Crazy

No shortage of folks who think some of these rolling wrecks are worth all sorts of money. there is one locally that started out nearly a year ago at $14,500. He is now down to like $9500. The car is worth maybe a bit over $1500-2000 as it needs everything including paint and interior, and it is an auto, no check for TBF, no paperwork on when it last had a TB/WP, it is a 32 valve engine....

Best most tempting 928 I have seen for sale in last two years had a flawed listing that messed up searches. Even though it would have been domestic disaster to bring home, when it dropped to $4500 I started putting my affairs in order and planned to go make a cash offer, drug my feet for a week and somebody bought it and immediately relisted it for $12,000. Last I heard it was still sitting in their garage going down in value. I think about calling them every few months.

There's a guards red 32 valve '85 928S in Little Rock Arkansas at a used Corvette dealer on I-30. I've looked at the car. It has weathered seats, a cracked spoiler in two places, and has the usual dash cracks, no records, etc. The guy has it listed for $13,500 but says "no reasonable offer refused". A reasonable offer would be $2,000 but this guy probably bought it for $3K to $4K planning to make some money. Bad choice of money making schemes. He should have stuck to Corvettes. I'm not going to tell him this because he will quote his used car price guide until he is blue in the face.

I wouldn't call a 928 a turd anyway. I'm not fond of the 32 valve cars, but I think some day the 928series will turn around in value. I've said before. A 356 speedster could be bought for $10,000 when I was a child of the 80's. Good luck finding one for less than $100,000 now. The market changes and classics change in the view of the public. Unfortunately right now the 928s aren't worth pi$$.

I picked up a guards red 84s auto the week before xmas for $800 Canadian. Intended for parts .Towed home put a battery in it and it started runs fine ( idle is high) but drives thru all gears fine .Oil was just changed, new brakes and fluid all round, new stainless exhaust, four brand new snowtires. Thinking maybe its worth restoring. Lets see if I spend 10g,s in parts to make it right and can maybe sell it for 10g,s .mmmm.....I'll only be out 800.0 plus my labour. Oh well what's a hobby for?

The classic $10k away from being a $5k car. Repairs add little to the market value.

After

The ones you put your heart and soul into are the hardest to part with.

You can't blame the seller for trying.. and a lot of them probably find some sucker that thinks like them too. Eventually though it will sit for months with no calls and become "negotiatable". It does piss me off a bit when a DEALER tryings slingin the BS though. Some local dealer had an average 79 with $12k on the windshield. I was calling to ask him if it came with a brick of gold in the back, but the call didn't go through and I lost my incentive to be a Dick

Thing to remember with a dealer is MANY times they have no plans to sell a specific car. Putting a 928 on a pedestal with $12k price in the window will bring people in, the dealer give them a quick hands off show of the Porsche they can't afford anyway and sells them a Camaro. That was the point of the Ford GT40 many dealers had sitting in showrooms for $150k, its was to sell Mustangs etc.

BTW that white 928 looks like it was a STEAL at $1300.

I know right! It's still wearing it's original Chiffon White paint and really only needs a spot repair to look perfecto. The Blaupunkt tape player is still in there and works like it's brand new. The car had been taken to some billy bob's repair shop where it sat inside for about 8 years. The owner never paid to fix it and it was caught up in a lein and sold to a junk yard where it sat about a year. I bought it from there with a clear title. I had it running in a week. I drove it today.
