Upgrading to electrical seats

I'm planning on replacing my non electrical seats with electrical seats from another car. Will this mean a lot of work and are the cables already there or do I have to deal with them as well?

The wiring may be there - What model and year is your car?

Pull back the carpet on the drivers side, near the seat and look under the seat - look for a connector with two wires, probably red and brown - if its there, that is the seat power. You need to check both sides, not all cars were wired for electric passenger seats, but its easy to add.

My 81 Euro non S has those power plugs on both sides. I did the same thing. I now have both power seats from an S4.

79 may have the seat belt on the torque tube tunnel, and newer seats will have it as part of the seat frame, the tongue of the seat belt is a different size as well I think.

Power seats are an inch or so higher in the seating position, and weigh 30 to 40 lbs more than manual seats.

I just pulled the power seats out of my 85 and put in some early manual seats for less weight and more headroom.

Just reuse your stock set up in seat belts and don't use the ones off the new seats and you'll be golden. Somebody sold me these S4 seats, but can't think of who that was offhand

just a side note-

if you are using S4 or later MY seats (installing the into an OB car), Alan can tell you how to wire them up. the wiring is different between OB and later models. He discussed this in a seat thread some time ago.

I was doing the job today and everything went fine but all ofa sudden they stopped working. Might be because of mine being S4 seats...

Alan, can you please tell me how to wire these up? Do you think I destroyed anything electrical now?

I answered your post on the new topic you created before I saw this one. You really need to stick your questions in your original post and "not" double post.
