Question Fuel injector project question

Hi all,

I purchased a new set of the Mercedes 0437502047 injectors this week to replace the old injectors, as well as a set of the new rubber sleeves 928-110-398-00. I have some questions about the metal bushings, part 928 110 399 02. Should I replace these as well, even if I can get the old ones out (I have to get at least 1 replacement already)? I've seen some handy advice on the forums about using parts from other cars to save cost, like these injectors, and was wondering if anyone has found a substitute metal bushing. The cheapest I've seen are almost half the cost of the injector itself! Anything multiplied by 8 can add up quick...

Thanks in advance,

Scott

I did the same project on my 79 last December. I had heard about how sometimes the injectors would strip and spin inside the sleeve, so to be prepared I picked up a full set of 8 used sleeves (perfect timing - 928Intl Xmas sale).

All told, I think about 3 or 4 of the sleeves stripped. As I was replacing the base gasket on the tubes, I simply used some vice grips to wrench the sleeve out once I had the tube removed from the engine. None of the stripped sleeves where in there so tight that I had trouble removing them, they were in there just tight enough though that it allowed the injector to spin and round the hex hole edges.

Do what rjm65 did and get some or all of them. You may not be as lucky as him. Mine were on there so tight that I had to Vice Grip them. As you will know, some are made different from others (cast and hardened). you WILL destroy them once vice grips touch them. If this is not a daily driver and being down is not an issue, then just replace what you break.

So far I'm 1 for 4. I tried soaking 2 in PB Blaster and no luck. Got sidetracked yesterday trying to remove the plenum mounts and the heat shield glue (booger collection) from the hood. I will try the vice grips method, hopefully I can get a couple more out. Don't want to wait until the half off Xmas sale!

I'd like it to be a daily driver, actually I'd just like to drive it! Soon, I hope.
