1985 928s starting issues

Over the summer on my 1985 928S US Version, Auto, I changed the plugs, wires, distrib, and rotors. The car always started without hitting the gas and with a roar. Lately as the weather has gotten colder, it has started, but not with the same roar. It is much more tame. This morning and once last week, when I started in the morning it cranked but did not turn over. Both times I had to give it gas to get it started. Once it is started, it holds the idle, and then runs fine. After driving it for a bit, and turning it off, it starts right up with the roar. So I guess it is a cold morning start that has been causing me these issues.

I would check your temperature II sensor. It sends temperature info to the computer to richen the mixture on cold starts. Maybe the low temperature(high resistance)reading is off. It could be a wire problem also. I think the most important sensor on this car is the temperature II sensor. Also check your air temperature sensor on the air breather as this is another temperature input. Check for vacuum leaks as these will lean your mixture and make it harder to start. The WSM has a good troubleshooting guide for all the injection sensor inputs. Good Luck.

Is the Temp II on the front of the engine next to the fuel regulator and above the radiator hose. Has 2 wires going to it ?

depending on the year of the car,
there are 2 senders on the water bridge,
the TEMP 2 sender is the one that has the Bosch type plug on it ,
and the other is for the temp gauge,
it has 2 slide on female connectors one is usually bigger than the other

Guess I cleaned contacts on the wrong one. Also, how does that 14 pin connector by the jumper post come apart for cleaning?

problem resolved

I was going to disconnect the ground cable in the rear hatch, thinking maybe it would reset the FI computer.
Recently I had the dead 928 issue, where you drive somewhere perfectly normal, and you go out to your car and nothing, it is completely dead.
That was resolved by replacing the ground strap which had corrosion under the black plastic. Looked 100% fine.
So while I was removing the wing nut, I noticed a white residue, and the washers I had on both sides looked a bit tarnished.
I removed the washers, cleaned the contacts, and hooked it back up.
Started great, and battery gauge no longer jumpy, holding in the middle.
I would not have thought it was the cable again, because I replaced it a few months ago.
It seems the rear hatch area gets a lot of moisture, and it effects the ground cable very easily.

You probably need to replace the hatch seal rubber. There is also a heavy ground under the engine on passenger side to the frame and a number of other ground points.
