Pop quiz - where do these "extra" parts go?

OK, engine is almost ready to go back in and I have a few parts that got set aside and now seem to be extras. This is probably part of my can't-remember-****-syndrome. Can anyone say where they belong? The bonus part came with my 77 911 and I never did figure out where it goes...;] Bruce

Well... 1 is a heat shield installed on one of the three bolts that join the downpipe to the exhaust manifold, I think to shield the clutch line on the DS of a 5spd early car. Its actually stainless steel

#3 is the cover that goes on the top of the alternator bracket.

#2 (If it's rubber )it looks like a body plug that fill holes on the structure under the radiator. I don't think the bonus one is a stock 928 part.

John, is #3 alternator or AC compressor cover?

Mrmerlin 05-04-2011 06:58 AM

1 heat shield for the left manifold/ header pipe, mounts to the lowest bolt, keeps heat off the clutch line
2 rubber cover goes on underside of the radiator support
3 A/C heat shield mounts under air pump, to the block uses AC compressor bolt mounts
Bonus ?? might be a heat shield for the 911 exhaust

Chris,
As Stan says in post #6: A/C compressor cover

OK thanks guys, good stuff. I was swamped with work today but getting closer. Got the blower motor in, wipers connected back up, new fuel lines in from the fire wall, new heater hoses, new clutch master (with the Merlin mod), fan is on, clutch is in, belts except ac are on. I tried to put in the new behind-the-tstat seal that I got from Pelican but it doesn't fit. Have to go back and review the wsm about that too. I think theres a pic in there somewhere (19-6) that shows the water bridge with no seal but somehow I found it when shopping Pelican. My 944s all have that so I bought one - oh well.... Bruce

what year car are you working on? The earlier cars didnt have a rear thermo seal ..

BUT if the bridge has a rear seal,, then if the rear seal is really bad the rubber will fall off and make it look like the new seal wont fit

83... Me, make a mistake and overlook or mis-remember something? No way. ;]
Engine is in, geeze what a pain.... Bruce
