1984S- Daily driver....Yeaaaaahhh

After three years of keeping my 928 as a broken garage queen I am starting to experience the benefits of driving a 1984 928 to work each day- 60 mile total commute.

Too many benefits to list, but here is short list:

COST:
-the MPG is much better than anticipated, which is just slightly worse than my old E 420 Mercedes
-87 octane fuel is cheaper than 91
-insurance and registration is dirt cheap.

COMFORT:
-rpm comfort, I drive 70 miles per hour or so, well under 2,300 rpm, which is smooth...and relatively quiet.
-seats, my black leather seats are in really good condition and very comfortable for me.

Carlsbad...

Yeah,

There is an informal Saturday morning cars and coffee at the carlsbad outlet mall just east of the highway 5 off palomar airport road. I think this event is monthly, but I don't know the schedule...

It's a quick stop at starbucks, check out a few cars, then head out to your next saturday task...

Al

Yes, I was there with my 928 and my then busted front spoiler. Man, it really makes the car look broken. I am glad my spoiler is fixed now...

Very nice!!

Looks a lot like mine

You can run 87 octane, would mine be ok to do that with also?

The Euros need 93 octane, yes? Or can I save some $$ and go with 87?

Yes, Nice car and enjoy. As for octane, on my 86 there is a green wire with plug at the computer on passenger side (inside car). If you disconnect it you can run lower octane. Look into this.

Harborman,
Isn't it the other way around for the octane loop connection? You plug it together if you are running lower octane fuel?

Ha ha, Fail!

Ok, San Diego Crew and OCers. Let's get a GTG going at the Carlsbad spot. Too bad we can't get Rjm65 going but I think he always works Saturdays, gotta keep us CISers representing

We can start a new thread once we get an exact date.

Carlsbad Premium Outlets - Carlsbad, CA
5620 Paseo Del Norte
Carlsbad, CA 92008
760-804-9000
LOCATION: 35 miles north of San Diego; 90 miles south of Los Angeles. Interstate 5 and Palomar Airport Road.

Last Saturday of every month. Next one is June 25th, then it's July 30th.

Depending on how hot it is during the day, I would switch over to 89 octane on a 16v car. My experiences with L-jet on a 944 led me to going from regular to mid-grade.

Leo, I'm good for the 25th, I'll tell my wife it's at the outlet mall, then maybe she will drive her black 86, and i'll drive my beige 81 .....

Hey Al, let's try and do the Fuel Tank drop Sat am. I am still trying to find out if our guests are coming to my pad or we're going to them. I'll keep you posted. I will know tonight.

Like I mentioned, look into it. I was not sure but it did change the timing to run lower/higher octane. I think I read a 3 degree change. Actually I have been running 87 instead of 93 here and have noticed no change in performance. No knock or pinging either. But gas mixtures differ in different areas.

Sure, I am still up for it, I picked up a fuel filter as well.

I gotta tell you, driving it daily on the freeway seems to have improved the engine overall, and yes harborman these older cars shouldn't sit for too long-- for plenty of reasons...

Ok, were good to go for Sat morning. Guests aren't arriving till around 12pm, so we have the morning. Is 8-8:30 too early for ya? Also, did you get the hoses already? I'm not really sure of the sizes as I never replaced mine except on the Euro which I bought a good used OEM hose from 928 Intl.

preparation...

Saturday 8:00 am is a great start time for me...

I was thinking I could drop the tank, then figure out the size of the bad hose and then drive to pickup a foot or so of stock oreilly or pepboys fuel line hose...

Is there some type of unique hose, connector or size/configuration that makes this plan a potential failure...?

send me PM via this board...

Not sure on the size Al. Can anyone chime in that has done this job before? I think it's more of if the hose has drastic bends than getting the correct ID.

Not sure of the size but it has a hard-line connection which would need suitable re-work to affix hose to metal line...that is if it is the hose from the under tank pump that snakes into the RR wheel well
