YAY! Just Blew up the Tranny on the Euro.

Arghh, had a little time to to refill the Tranny Fluid today and gave it a hard test drive (bad mistake). On the Freeway wondering why it was idling so high, so in gear so the engine wouldn't blow up, I was able to get off the freeway and on a side road to see what happened.

My Cruise Control Cable was stuck on which was pulling on the throttle lever. I was able to get it loose without any tools, but I could really smell tranny fluid bad. I restarted and a gawd aweful sound was emitting, decided to try and limp it home.

I got it home and I could see a trail of Fluid and it was really dripping bad where I parked in the street. I quickly moved my Eclipse off my dirt parking area and moved my Euro there. At least she can sit there for awhile. Looks like the Euro 4 Speed I got from Al (Evozine) which originated from DanglerB (Mike) is gonna be installed sooner than expected.

Merry Christmas Eve

Sorry to hear this. Hang in there. If I were closer I would help with the swap...Maybe after my move.

Thanks Guys! I was wondering if anyone has actually done the 3 speed to 4 speed tranny swap. I have the 4 speed Tranny and the Torque Tube. Do I also need to find the whole linkage to Shifter plus shifter?

That does suck...not a very nice Christmas present.

Sounds like we'll be seeing a nice "how to" on a 3 to 4 speed swap?

Any idea what went bad on the Euro tranny?

BTW limp home = worlds most expensive tow.

1981 to 1984 tranny swap crosses the A22/A28 change so more may have changed.

Honestly, didn't really care since I was already planning on replacing the 3 speed anyways. The thing leaks big time anyways. I was lucky to have it last this long as when I initially drained that tranny it was very tan in color if I remember correctly. Whats A22/A28?

Pretty sure it was the pressure I put on it by keeping it in gear to keep the rpms down. Something blew out, could just be a hose, could be a seal, although I don't plan on fixing it. I was actually in a hurry to get home since I needed to be in TJ in an hour.

A22 is the 3 spd, A28 is the 4 spd. This is the break point between the early and late style LSD, and I am thinking some other stuff, but don't know what all.

Maybe the whole drive train should come out of the junkyard car? Not that I would like to do it or know where it could go.

Actually that 928 in the Pick a Part is a prime one to get what I need. Except, not real willing to pull that kind of stuff from those yards. To me, those yards are unsafe to be "under."

I may just wing it and start collecting stuff from diagrams that look like they will be needed. Since we can't get anyone to chime in that has actually done it. I will be the one to create a documented 3-4 Speed Swap.

He doesn't frequent here much, so a nudge to get him to let us all know what it takes would be greatly appreciated.

My '82 Euro has a 4Speed in it -- but that was long before I got it
or any of the previous owners I know who had the car.

So I can't help you do it -- but I can attest I like it :-)

bummer

Sorry to hear you blew out the old, but glad to hear that Mike's old tranny will get a new life in your Euro...

I did a quick wash and drive earlier today--My tranny is still holding together nicely, 2100 rpm, 60 mph, what a feeling in a 928...

Good deal Al! As soon as I sell my Mitsu Turbo, then I can get the Trans swapped. I picked up the mating Torque Tube from Mike a couple weeks ago. I planned that out since I was with my family at Disneyland anyways.
