Took mine off a while back during some maintenance and found a small amount in mine as well. I was assured by my car mechanic friend that it was normal. I cleaned it out and went on with the maintenance...

Yes, perfectly normal. It is from a condition called blowback. Check out 928 Specialists - Dave sells a kit to remedy it, called a sharkvent.

...also note however that if there are large amounts of oil, it could be an indication of a problem (bad rings, etc). Also check the various hoses running on top of the engine, especially at the oil filler neck, and make sure they are all on tight and clamped properly.

I put one of Carls Oil Baffles in my Euro, not sure if it's different in your 32v. As the others have said, it's normal to an extent. The question is how much oil are you seeing?

Not just normal, but SNAFU, I'm convinced oil ingestion is a fairly serious problem with many 928's as oil promotes detonation. The whole breathing system could use some fixing, not sure which of the dodads like prefer yet, but that small vent looks too restrictive.

It's already in your car. Factory part for later years.
