Sweet! The nuts are a neat feature, I guess only certain models have that?
Definitely interested in the body work. I have never done any, and want to learn and do all the prep work on mine when the time comes...

Stoolie...be happy you live in ChCh. (apart from the earthquakes)..lol
..believe me..pack rats (woodrats) are a pain in the you know what!!...they hide cr@p in your car (tons of it)....eat up all the wiring and anything rubber or plastic under the hood...where i live now..i have to keep the hoods open at night..or im in trouble the next morning....like...my car wont start!

okay I managed to make a little progress,,,i took off the hood and started removing paint,,first you have to remove the washer jets, and the wire goes through a round plastic cap that closes out the washer jet holes,so you need to remove the plug in order to slide it through the holes

push in the sleeve that fits in the hole as far as you can and it releases the tabs and you can remove the wire

its a good idea to label the slots but it is not critical because the wires on the other side of the plug are the same color[

I scratch up the surface with some 36 grit so the stripper attacks faster and put on my first heavy coat

the last pic is just another coat of stripper around the edges,,, it is better to remove all the paint with the stripper so you dont damage the aluminum with sanders the hood will distort very easy with machines heating it up,,, So the last step is to use a scotch brite with some water and nuetralize the stripper and clean off the hood,,,
![]() now we are on our way to a new finish,,,,,, the next segment will be removing the trim from the doors and the wiring for the mirrors....

You should have used a peace of plastic sheeting to cover the stripper up after you had put the stripper on the hood . It keeps if from drying out and helps it remove the paint so you do not have to reply it again . Plus you must have gotten the paint stripper on the underside of the hood with no tape and paper around the edge of the hood that i could see in the pic.

Thank you for your advice mark,,, I have never used plastic sheeting over stripper and I never have a problem with the stripper drying out,as far as the underside of the hood ,i didn't get any stripper under there because i was only stripping the top,,but i do strip the underside as well,, i don't strip where the insulator goes or the emissions label due to the fact the seam sealer would be compromised,,,otherwise all the paint comes off and we start from scratch.....This thread is an actual body & paint restoration for viewers to know the difference between a 3k paint job and a 20k paint job,,,I'm trying to show the extent of doing something right while giving basic instructions for the do it yourselfer.
A car prepared correctly will have a paint job that will last 20 plus years, providing all steps are followed and product is not compromised,,, tI'me and labor is intense,,,patience and knowledge will win shows and recognition. Anything else is a band-aid,a cosmetic cover up,although if that works for you then great,,, there is a job for every budget,,,the type of work i am demonstrating is not for everybody,,,it is for people interested in the preservation for classic automobiles...
