window stuck

window is stuck up right now.. for a while the window would stop working for a little bit. every now and then it would be stuck up, or down, but never for more than an hour or two.

the last few times i have taken the car out, the window wont move.. where is the best spot to start?

motor, switch ?

Open and close the door slowly while depressing the switch. If the motor energizes, then you have a broken wire in the door. If not, then your switch is probably toast.

clever... i will check that and report back

I will bet on the switch, had to replace both in my 86. If you are needing a switch, I would go ahead and replace all 4 while at it.

not the switch.... door trick worked... although it looks a little ghetto when i roll up to a stop sign and open the door to get the window down....

how much dissection involved to get to the rebel wire?

i can get door panels off not sweat,. but don't the wires come through some plastic tubing or something

Maleficio 09-27-2012 05:41 PM

The wires come from a connector just under the dash on the outboard driver side and through a plastic conduit into the door. You likely have a broken wire but with good insulation. Just slowly work the wire with your fingers until you find a soft/loose spot. That's the break. Cut out the bad part, splice it back together just I showed in my wire repair thread. Check all of your wires while in there.

good call... I took door panel off a while ago because the lower carpet was loose. I used a little 3m, stuck it back on, and shortly after realized my power mirrors did not work... possibly the same issue?

Maleficio 09-27-2012 10:02 PM

Very possible, but those mirror switches are crap and expensive.

Maleficio 09-27-2012 11:55 PM

However, the wiring for the mirrors resides much higher than the door carpet.

Just pull the panel and re-work the wiring. You may need to run all new wiring. Just depends on how much effort you're willing to expend.

and before you hear a rattling around in there the 10mm ? screws plate that the metal tubes run through have a look if the screws are loose, the window starts to slowly unbalance , causing undo stress on the switches, rubber, felt, window scratchys...., youll want to be rolling up fast and even as possible vs any struggle.

Very true. Mine were loose or laying in the bottom of the door.
