What type of car is that?

Driving the all black wide body 86 today, and pulled into a gas station behind a guy in a white on white on white Panamera. After he had filled up he came over and asked me what my car was - despite the Porsche crest on the hood, the word Porsche across the back, and the center of the wheels with Porsche crests. I told him it was a Porsche, he said no way, shrugged and walked off.
Jerk.

yeah, a lot of new porsche owners are ignorant of porsche history, they are buying them for social status.

LOL, I should have told him it was a ricer!
I wanted to ask him what he was - I figured white paint, white interior and he was wearing all white - and bottom of the line base car -- draw your own conclusion

I looked at your '86 very cool, are there more pics?
Agree, what a poser and tool at the same time.
New Porsche guys are hit or miss.

Yep - the other day at the gas station I gave a nod and a "Nice Car!!!" compliment to a 911 type dude. He said "Yeah - I know" and looked the other way. Probably didn't even know I was driving a Porsche. Snob.

Other guys I have met with Porsche's are the opposite, so nice.

I let my 928 get dirty lately to proudly say - Yes - it is a driver......

Jerk.
Look at the Porsche crests etc, then look back at him and say, aren't you supposed to have a sign?

Just wait a couple of years and all these people that can't afford to buy and maintain the Panamera they are driving will be trying to sell them. You'll have the last laugh then.

Sad, really.

It's always such a letdown meeting new Porsche drivers that are new to the brand. They haven't poured though years of Porsche mags and really don't get what the brand is about ( or was about, lightness, simplicity etc.)

I was out yesterday blasting around and noticed a couple new Porsche model drivers check out the 928 and they seemed to like it by the way they stared. There were other stares usually men in there 50s and 60s that wanted one when new.

These cars when wearing good paint still look great 30 years on.

I am proud to own the car.

The 928 looks as good or better than most new cars today. People do not know what it is. I have been approached at the gas station by a few who are amazed at the car. It does draw attention.

The cars still look modern and not too dated after many years. The local car club has a wide selection of cars and someone always has questions about the 928. Most members have driven my S4 and were pleased with it. They are surprised to learn it has a V-8 and good handling and brakes. They were ahead of their time in many ways.

I usually give a casual wave when I see a fellow Porsche owner on the road or at a gas station when I'm in the 928, but most of the owners of newer Porsche models don't even acknowledge me. The people who have older 911s and especially 944s will usually wave back or honk though

agreed. Anyone with an older porsche is usually throwing a wave or beep.... The worst are the old dudes in the boxsters who think they're driving a Bentley. I don't think i'd drive one if it was given to me. You can scoop them up for like 7 grand now, about what a good 928 will run you. You can get a 944 turbo for about that same price too, and they fact you don't see them everyday is good enough for me.
