I sprint race a shifter kart @ NOLA Motorsports park. Funnest thing you can do on 4 wheels including that thing we can do with girls in tha back seat at a drive in movie.

When I had the 928 I was such a bad driver it's a good thing I never got into a real race.

I've always wanted to try a shifter kart. I kart often but on the general public slow ones. Try a 24 hours of Lemon race and see if you still want to stick with your "funnest thing...." comment, I reserve my comment til I try a shifter kart

I dusted a blue Mustang GT with racing stripes downtown at 2AM one Saturday night. It's all fun and games until you engage the kickdown on a 3,200lb 928S with a 3 inch exhaust.

Longest race I did is the end of the year Iron Man sprint. 1 hour long. have to come in for re-fuel as 9 liters won't last an hour. and yea an hour is long enough.

Makes you realize that the F1 drivers that race thier hour every 2 weeks at G levels double a shifter kart and superb athletes.

Street racing is stupid. There now I'll get off my soap box.

Years ago one would see guys street racing quite a lot. Today, I never see any, but maybe because where I am at. Back in the 60's, 70's you could go buy some big block 426 Hemi for about $4K ready to put slicks on, out the door. Now i don't see these kids do much except put some 4" exhaust on and a spoiler, paint wheels red and install a 2 KW audio system you can hear two blocks away!

That's why the F1 guys have necks like linebackers.. 5g braking with a 10lb head plus helmet, that gotta make it a least 50lbs.
I even gotta give it up to the NASCAR guys, 3 hours in big heavy cars in 100+ degree heat..
I've done a 2 1/4 hour stint before and thought I was gonna die, I could barely help strap the next guy in

Funny. Midnight.

Lots of discussion at midnight Tuesday.

I slid into a T/A truckstop in a 928 during aftermath of a snow/ice storm.

Had to hang there 8 hours till I could roll again.

Got kudos just for driving the old beast, let alone in bad weather.

Talking Driver education teaches Beemers Rockingham

I had an 86-5 spd silver bullet. At Rockingham we were DE and I was following a 3 Series BMW into the infield. It was one of our instructor groups and he had a student with him. I was just hanging back about 20 feet going into the "fishhook" waiting for the short infield passing zone. Guess he was telling his student, "we'll lose that big hog thru here". He did a beautiful 4 wheel drift off the track out corner and was jumping thru the big mud holes off the edge of the track. I started to pass as it was a passing zone and he was off the track. Something said, NO and I backed off just as he hit a really big puddle, sploosh! Across the track it sprayed like a water skier was in it. It would have been right into my car had I not backed off. Then a lap later he came out of the pits after checking his car, as I was going thru turn 1-2 at 130 mph. He drove straight up to the racing line without checking the track was clear behind him. Luckily for us both he was scared of the wall and I drove between him and the wall at that speed. Never found out who he was and nobody else seemed to have seen it. It was the Tuesday after that weekend some policeman from NJ backed a Richard Petty car into the wall there and was killed. I always went slower thru there after that.

Talking Another Beemer lesson given Roebling Roads

My '87 5 speed somehow welded the brass synchro to the gear as I was just taking it easy learning the Roebling Track. My wife drove the Silver Bullet down and my son and I drove it on Sunday. An old 2002ti (2,200 lbs.?) that had been turned into a dedicated racecar was following me and trying to overtake. I did have race rubber, race pads, chip, and I had balanced the corner weights. He was on me pretty hard for a couple laps but couldn't quite get close enough to merit a wave by. I was drifting the front, drifting the rear, and drifting all 4 wheels at different parts of the track. After about 3-4 laps of this, I looked back and saw a cloud of dust and then he was gone. After the session was over, a guy comes walking over to my camp spot and asked who was driving the silver car. I fessed up and he said "I just want to shake your hand, you've been driving that thing a while haven't you? I almost had you but the front straight gave you just enough accelleration to leave me behind." I still don't know why my 3.450 lbs w/o driver 928S was able to hold off the much lighter race car. Guess I had seasoned my tires to the max, and his car set up was really off. I give a lot of credit to the balance of the 928 that makes any driver look a lot better than he thinks he could be.

Porsche Crest Awesome 928 brakes vs 5.0 Mustang

At Rockingham, my son's instructor had a 4 wheel disced Mustang 5.0. I guess he wanted to see what "the old man" could do in the car. (It was my son's first d.e. ) I always left Mustang behind thru the infield, but since the earlier incident with the Beemer, I backed off to about 120 thru turn 1&2 of the oval. I was taking it easy and watching his approach behind me, as we came to the braking markers for the infield. First time I braked at the 3rd from last cone and he did the same almost catching me with his momentum. I opened up a lead thru the infield and then as he was catching me into the braking zone again, I waited until the second cone before hitting the brakes. He was still braking at the 3rd cone, so was farther back thru the infield this time. He was still trying to catch me so was almost behind me as I entered the braking zone for the infield again. This time I waited until the last cone and the pressure required now activated the ABS as the track was a little bit rough there, but I made it thru perfectly and he was way back there now still having to brake at the 3rd cone. After that demonstration he gave up on catching me until I was parked in the pits, and then complimented the Porsche on it's awesome brakes.

Seems like its a LOT easier to teach a Mustang to go than to stop.

Smile Teaching mustang to stop

Later when my son was in Navy nuke training in Orlando, I let him drive the 928. I think he was showing another squid in a 5.0 how fast the Porsche could accelerate and a car pulled out of a side street. Then he showed the guy how fast the 928 could stop and was rear ended. Totalled the mustang, cracked the rear cover of the Porsche and cracked a tail light. I think it did crack the aluminum beam under the cover, but it was like almost nothing comparably. If I ever come across that pic, I'll post it. Sorry, didn't get one of the mustang, They all look alike after that anyhow.LOL!
