i will check out ground diagram is it neccasary to check all the injector wires as if one isnt firing it would still get gas and start but miss on that cylinder as testing is only testing the wire for power and firing not the injector itself

i checked out ground diagram for early model 28s making note of the engine and infector ground on the motor that the poster made special note of at bottom of diagram. as i said before i am a chef not a mechanic although getting better as time goes on so i appreciate all the help and advice

Please verify what fuel injector relay part # you replaced the original with and the position in the central fuse panel that you placed it. Just to be sure.

i followed the relay diagram that i have and went to autozone with old relay and they gave me a replacement relay they said is a suitable replacement has correct pins and power parameters

Are you sure it's correct? According to this chart. The FI Relay is not like any other relay in your CE Panel. I would have went OEM as it's only $13

It is located in the fourth slot from the right on the top.
No other relay will work in this position.

that is definatly the one replaced i found the ground on top of cam cover looks rusty and corroded gonna take off and clean up tomorrow as well as look for the one underneath which appears to be a task to get to again thanks any anything else to check i will do i'm very motivated to drive this car its been over ten years since i drove it

ok checked the grounds for engine and fuel injection system they appear to be grounded well but still not firing the injectors i checked another injector on otherside of motor and no lights over there either so whats next what controls the pulse sent to injectors eventually we will find the culprit.

i also ordered oem fi relay just in case

But to try it, did you jumper the relay slot?
Did you use a three-ended jumper wire with spade ends?
30 to 87 to 87?

so although the relay from autozone fits the general idea is it won't work the same. well should be here friday keeping my fingers crossed.

I know that you are new to the 928 scene and I am trying to take that into account :) Print out the fuse and relay chart that MPDano linked you to in an earlier post. Keep 2 copies. (One in the car at all times)
Almost every relay in your '81 is a specific and special relay. That being said, they must be placed in the specific spot in the fuse panel designed for that specific relay. No other relay will work in that specific spot for that specific duty.

The only "generic" relays that work correctly in "generic" spots are the 253B relays (sometimes denoted by a big 53 on the flat surface of the relay) and their less desirable but functional little sister the "24" relay, which is virtually the same generic relay as the 53 relay but the 24 relay handles less amps apparently. These 'generic relays are only to be installed in slots that call for the 253B relay.

I'm hoping that when the correct fuel injection relay arrives, you can plug it in the right slot and your car will start and run as you expect it.
