Automatic Transmission Drain - A little Help?

I took off the pan from the trans - I am under the impression that I need to drain the Converter as well.

Any other areas to drain? I ask because I was expecting 2.5 gallons of fluid, and only drained about a quart?

Where to fill trans fluid from?

Dang, just did this today and should have taken some pictures. You should get close to 2 gallons of ATF. You did drain the converter right? The drain plugs on it and the pan are the only points you need to worry about.

On your '81, you will remove the cap on the reservoir and fill there. It should take about 4 quarts before you will need to start the car which will allow the torque convertor to fill. Then you are refilling the reservoir and pan. Do not overfill!

Replace the small vacuum hose(s) that service the tranny...WYAIT

You have to position the torc converter in order to access it's drain plug. There is a place under the trans to drain it once you get the plug in position by manually turning the crank a little at a time until you get it in position.

Yes. What you are looking for is a smallish allen bolthead on the torque converter.

You have to turn it manually because invariably you try to "bump" the engine over to line up the drain, it goes too far and you have to start over realigning the hole to where you need it.

Only one time was I able to "bump" the engine over and have it aligned. It was the first time I ever drained a 928 tranny. It has never happened since. I realized after about the 15th try on the second tranny, just how incredibly lucky I was the first time.

OK - drained everything - cleaned - replaced filter & gasket.

I feel like an idiot asking this - where do I fill the transmission from?

Don't say "at the resevoir" because I do not see any resevoir? Help?

The reservoir should be on the passenger side of the transmission near the back. Visible only while under the car. Smallish white reservoir? Probably really dirty?
