P Steering Changed Suddenly

My steering became harder all of a sudden when entering the freeway after rounding an on ramp.

Checked hoses, belt, reservoir. Had my son turn steering back and forth and I saw no movement of fluid in reservoir. Fluid is about 1.5 inches from top of reservoir.

Is there any way of telling if it is the pump? Pump was rebuilt July 2013.

Thanks.....

Funky pumps usually make a noise. Flow should be obvious looking in the reservoir, I think anyway.

If fluid looks good and up, no leaks in system, belt is tight, it may be the pump. Rebuilt pump may be the problem.

thanks guys. seems to be the pump but I would think it would make some kind of noise yet no noise at all.

Try changing the fluid first, it might cure it. Like an automatic transmission slipping because the oil looses viscosity over time.

I think my 928 uses trans fluid in the power steering. You might want to double check on that!

Owning a 928 is risky business - but sometimes you just gotta say "what the fudge".

Steel I believe. Top is metal, long threaded stem in the middle. Nice metal thumb screw looking thing, kind of neat. Always think I am gonna drop it somewhere in the bay unscrewing it.

Didnt even know there was a plastic one.
