Window relay for 86
Been checking places for a replacement part # 928 615 126 00 which is the window relay. Mine seems to have an open coil. Is there any cheaper replacement or do I need to order here. Thanks Guys.

As far as I can tell its another special 928 relay. Open coil seems odd, if you are brave open it up and look for a bad connection.
I don't know if its worth your time to check around on prices. |

Well, It may not be the relay. There is a solid state device which seems to control the actual coil and is inside the relay. My sunroof also will not work, so something in common with the windows and sunroof. I need to further investigate this.

The window relay controls both windows and sunroof.

53 will work, but you loose the functionality of operating these motors after the ignition is turned off but before door is opened.
Try that. otherwise, we can look at this spare 86.5 panel I have to see if it has a used one.

It looks like a transistor inside turns on the relay or has something to do with the alarm/safety system. I was trying to check the operation on the bench here. Looks like a protection diode across the coil. Not too familiar with German electrical diagrams.
Of course now my back hurts from bending down under there yesterday!

Fuse 14 (Sunroof) & Fuse 15 (windows) come after the relay. The relay is triggered on by the accessory position on the ignition switch and triggered off by any of the the door & hatch switches opening. The relay also controls the central locking power in some models (incl. '86). Central locks active only when windows are inactive.
If you need functional windows: 1) You can substitute the relay with a plain '53 and have windows/sunroof whenever accessory is active - but without central locks. 2) You can also use an 87/30 bridge and have the Windows/Sunroof always on (temporarily) there is no extra power in this mode if everything is working OK. A reasonable temp fix. 3) You can use a standard SPDT Bosch relay (with 5 pins incl. 87/87a) and have windows/sunroof whenever accessory is active and normally functioning central locks. Alan

The extra #53 relay did work for now. I should replace with the correct one. At least my windows work! Funny, I had replaced all #53 when I got the car and saved the old ones and kept them in the car, maybe a word of advise to all.

Well, I took the relay apart. Seems inside there are 4 diodes, a resistor and capacitor, no transistor. I checked all the diodes all seem OK, the cap was not shorted. I put 12v directly on the coil, it pulled in. Seems there is another input on this relay from the #53 type. I have put in a 53 for now.
Unfortunately I have other problems.....hit a big deer with my Expedition, so need to look into a new bumper and grill for it. It's hunting season here and the deer are running all over the place. I hit it doing about 55, came right out of no where!

relay fixed
I was able to fix the relay.
![]() I replaced the 4 diodes on the little circuit board. I had some 1N4001, 1 amp diodes in my parts supply, so I used those. The original ones are the glass type. Guess I just wanted to see if I could fix the old relay more than anything. With a little care you can pry the plastic case off of the relay. Besides the relay coil, there are the 4 diodes, a capacitor and one resistor. Just a small RC time delay circuit. I also sprayed some Deoxit on the relay contacts since I had it opened up.

Funny thing. all the diodes looked fine when tested with my meter, but I figured one must be bad. You can use any generic power diode with a 1 amp and say 50 VDC rating or better. The ones I had were rated at 1 Amp and 1,000 volt break down. Make sure you keep the polarity the same when installing the new ones. Ya, fun to make things work again!
