928 Porsche 83 hvac system

I am restoring a 928 after burglars broke out the radio and I came across this (see attached picture). Can someone please help me figure out where this solenoid must go? And how do I reconnect the vacuum pipes to the solenoid situated behind the centre console that operates the centre flap? I'm also wondering why this vacuum unit have got 2 vacuum connection points?

Vacuum Solenoids -

Hey Janvisman - It looks like you are holding one of the 5 electrically controlled vacuum solenoids that is mounted on a common bracket along the lower back side of the center console. Here is one of the many discussions on the HVAC controls and a photo of the dismounted rack of solenoids -

I think just about every owner has had to chase down at least one or two solenoid related problems in the HVAC system. The 928 vacuum plumbing is color coded and isn't difficult to sort out once you have located all the components.

Keep us posted -

Good Luck, Michael

I agree with Michael that it is a vacuum change over valve. Looks like the stand alone solenoid valve fitted to cars with AC but not climate control. Does your car have an round sensor cap in the center console to the right of the center air vent?

Hi guys sorry for the delay but I am still new to this. On this model I do have the climate sensor (with the little fan inside) on the centre console and I found traces of the sensor under the left fender. The air con hasn't got a separate switch but apparently the later models do have. What I would like to know relates to the vacuum-pipes layout attached to vacuum unit which have two connecting nipples. This model still have the six vacuum solenoids which I managed to sort out according to the color lines but on this model the center flap outlet have a first and second stage outlet, which they have done away with on the later models.I also attached a picture of the vacuum unit attached to the back of the center console. In the meantime I do wish you guys a merry Christmas and a prosperous new year from a sunny South Africa !
