Door speaker size help

Hey,

Sorry for total newbie quesion regarding speaker fitting sizes.

I know there are plenty of discussions about the speakers themselves, but this is about hole sizes..

As you can see from the pictures the holes have been enlarged and I am not sure what size speaker should fit.
I do not want to enlarge the hole anymore.

So there are 5.25 or 6.5 speakers I have found locally that sort of look like a 964 grill to some point.

https://www.ground-zero-audio.com/en/produkt/gzif-52x/
or
https://www.ground-zero-audio.com/en/produkt/gzif-65x/

It looks like someone has also used a larger grill then the speaker, well they are from 2 different makes.

So just would like to know should I go for a 5.25 or 6.5 speaker in that hole.

All help appreciated

Alex

The stock size for the door is 5.25” but I’m not sure how it would work since the opening has been enlarged. Are you considering an adaptor to reduce the opening size and create a mounting point for the stock size?

Check posts 59 & 60, you’ll see that the opening has a black enclosure behind it that encloses the speaker and also provides the mounting point for the screws. https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-964-993-technical-forum/1098094-picked-up-keeper-marine-blue-964-a-3.html

Hey,

Well I am unsure if I put 5.25" back with the plastic cups at the back and not sure what they do and I don't have them anyway will 5.25 gills cover the holes, that's basically the key thing here and deciding factor which way I go.

If necessary as a cheap option I could buy those adaptor rings if I can find them.

BTW I do not have stock grills.

I have no worries going to 6.5" if they fit in the larger holes that have been made.

Thanks for your help.

Alex

"the plastic cups at the back and not sure what they do"

They are "umbrellas" for the speaker...keeps water from dripping directly on them

I went with 6.25 without cutting, I used a spacer because the magnet on speaker rear protruded too deep...also there was some one on here that made a mdf mounting plate
