'98 C2S any problems?

I am looking at purchasing a '98 C2S. It only has 19K miles on it.
I was wondering if there are any known problems to look for on this perticular year? The car is completely stock, 6 spd.
I am having it inspected, but thought it would be nice to hear from someone with experience with this year.

Known problem areas on 993 - not saying that yours will have all of these problems, but these are the most common ones I see.

AC Evaporator core tends to leak. usually after 30K miles

Valve cover gaskets (lower) go between 25K miles and 30K miles -you can almost bet money on this one.

Nose bearing on alternator (random)

Steering racks usually above 40K miles

Windshields tend to creak

Rust formation at lower corners of windshield. However, the 993 came with a 10 year rust through warranty - if it is rusting in that location, get it into a dealer asap.

The through bolts on the case tend to seep a little oil - usually not a significant leak and rather pricy to fix.

Buy yourself a few extra window switches and an extra DME relay to keep in the glovebox.

Other things to consider:

If you are experienced with 911s, the 993 will suprise you a little bit - there is a lot more stuff crammed into the engine compartment. Therefore, if you do your own maintenance or pay someone to do it, they cost a bit more and take longer to repair.

FisterD,

I have a low mileage ’98 C2S and have not had any problem at all. Just have a PPI done at a good shop and make sure you look closely at the door check straps. Good luck 993's are great cars.

Laurier,
Thanks for the positive feedback.
I didn't react quick enough and lost out on the '98 I was looking at, so I am currently still on the hunt.
I viewed your pics.........WOW!
Beautiful car, and a beautiful garage! Nice work. I am very jealous!
