Seat Belt Buckles for a 99 996
Hi All,
Service Dept. just told me that one of the buckles in my car is bad. The airbag light was on so I took it in. The repair is to replace both buckles and the control computer with updated software. They said that the new buckles wouldn't communicate with the old control computer. So when all is said and done they want $1000 bones to make the light go out. The buckles are $60 each at the dealer so as you can see it's the "extra" work that's killing me. Anybody know how to solve this without bending over? thanks,

I'm going to look into this for you.....
I think I have a solution but don't want you to wet your pants just yet. I'll have an answer for you in a couple of days. BTW: I don't understand what the dealer means by "your new seat belts "not communicating". I understand that they can cause the activation of that airbag light but that should go away when you replace them. Hum? Feel free to contact me directly at eli@pelicanparts.com if you don't hear back from me by Thursday. -Eli |

According to the Service Rep, the new buckles do not communicate with the 99 control computer. So if you put new buckles in without a new computer you will still have the fault and the light will not go out.
Thanks for looking into this. I know my car is more technologically advanced and safer, but I miss the good old buckle that simply clicked and released. cab

I just put in an order for a kit used for the 996 in replacement of the receptacles. I got a NO LONGER AVAILABLE reply just now. I’m checking to see if they have a superceded kit available…..
On the communication issue, I wonder what would happen if you installed the replacement receptacles and the light went out? I’m not a service advisor from Porsche but if it were me I would certainly give it a go…… Hang in there….. -Eli |

The parts have been superceded to #000.043.206.06 Repair Kit,
996.803.183.10 & 996.803.183.09 seat buckles. There is no computer that needs to be replaced. The wiring and connectors under the seats have to be replaced (repair kit), that may be their reason for saying 'communicate'. Present wiring/connectors are not being picked up by air bag sensors, thus deactivating air bag. (possibly no body in seat). You will have to have the air bag light reset with the Porsche Systems Tester. We do a couple of these a week, all MY 99.

Thanks for the info,
Eli, what were you thinking in your "I think I can help" post? So far it looks like I'll still have to spend $600 on seat belt buckles.

![]() The set of seat belt buckles would run you about $112.36 and the set of harnesses would run you about $95.22. ALL TOGETHER YOU'RE LOOKING AT AROUND $207.58.... "WHERE DID YOU GET $600.00 FROM???" ![]() ![]() ![]() -Eli |

From Laura's original email. I guess I just misunderstood the thread. Can I get these parts through you?

I need to support the cause of my fellow 996 drivers..... The cars cost enough as it is. Don't let the parts kill us..... ![]() If you've ordered from us in the past just E-mail me your full name with any updated changes to your ordering profile including address, phone, cc. etc.... You may have to have your system reset accordingly, sorry I don't know the procedures nor do I have the equipment..... Since these items are coming directly from Porsches warehouse it may take a few days. But if it's going to save you big I'm sure you don't mind the wait right? If you have not ordered from us before you can go ahead and call me here at 888-280-7799 eli@pelicanparts.com -Eli ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Eli at Pelican Parts; 01-14-2005 at 11:23 AM.. |
