anyone supercharged a 993?

just curious if anyone has done this or even seen one.
I have a few friends supercharging their newer cars. mostly the VW VR6, Evo's, R32s & STIs. however, it makes me wonder why this can't be done safely with a 993 motor.
work is slow today, so i'm just dreaming.
Cheers, Kyle.

Yes, it can be done - one of the tuners has done it (can't recall the name, but it is in andersons book).

Seem to recall reading that it did require some creative plumbing to make it work.

I'm sure there is a kit available out there somewhere.

Kyle

The September 2001 Excellence had an article with a 993 supercharger.

thanks, i just dug up that old issue of Excellence. medicere results back then, i'm sure the technology has gotten a bit better results. certainly an interesting way to get a little more power out a motor w/o completely rebuilding it to some crazy RS specs. i think the guys at ninemeister in the UK put a supercharger on a factory 993 RS. whooo hooo.

Any motor can be supercharged, but compression is the biggest deal. 11.3.1 is not the best compression to start out with. I would go with nitrous if you want a quick cheap 100hp.

I was talking with a shop last summer that installed a supercharger on a 993, I think it was one made by TPC. It was a bit crude in their opinion. For example; fuel inrichment was supplied by a 7th injector just like the old days instead of in software.

Chris, unless you swap to Motronic, that's the other other way to get adequate fuel. Motronic is pretty spendy too.
so i hear.....

A 993 already uses Motronic...

Chris, pardon the typos. I blame the Heineken that i consumed last night. what i meant was swapping from Motronic to Motec.

There are a few guys on Rennlist who have supercharged their 993s. Do a search there.

Imagine Auto is trying to rustle up interest in a new supercharger design that would be a bit more modern, more finished and probably more expensive than the Turbo Performance version. I think they need 10 people to put down deposits before they proceed with development. No affiliation or interest, by the way.

Pelican Parts Supercharging the 996

Understanding that we will be distributing Supercharger kits for the 996 in the very new future I’ve taken the liberty to do some research into the matter.

Our current supplier has sold more than 75 of these units that produce 5-6 pounds of boost even with the high compression. Many had anticipated a few blown motors in the first year but to date there have been no reports so far.

My contact has his on 7-8 pounds just to see what would happen over time…… nothing so far, even after 30,000 miles….. We’ll see what happens, but for now there has been one year of R&D and one year of testimony from many satisfied customers. I don’t have to tell you that these kits don’t come cheap but I will tell you for the power of about 100 HP on tap there is nothing like it…..

As for NOS….. Well most of you should know better…..

I have ran nitrous on most every car I have ever owned. I have one motor that I built that has been through over 100 10lb bottles in the last couple of years. Never an incident period! I have never blown anything up running nitrous. Nitrous systems got a bad wrap from cheap systems produced about 20-30 years ago. It is the tuner that blows the engine not nitrous!!!! Nitrous technology is light years ahead of those systems. If you buy a good quality kit such as NOS, Nitrous Express or Compucar and follow the recommendations you will be fine. The reason nitrous is not big in the Porsche world is simple... they have never really been used for drag racing and secondly the aftermarket is very very overpriced do to the lack of demand. How many tuners would be able to sale 1K mufflers that give you 2hp if they were to offer a nitrous kit for 350 dollars that gave you 100hp and a ton of torque? Same goes for 20K turbo kits vs 350 dollar nitrous kit. I have ran nitrous, superchargers, turbos and even a nitrous with a supercharger and turbo. Bottom line is nitrous is the best bang for the buck you will ever find. Throttle in a bottle baby!
