Question 964/993 Distributors

Hi Gang,

I just received a second hand 993/964 distributor I won off EBay for USD$280

The unit looks to be in good condition. Both rotors turn together and the shaft spins smoothly without any noises or hesitation.

The EBay ad said it was recently rebuilt with new belt and bearings.

Is there any way I can verify this, or is it just a matter of putting it in my engine and seeing how it goes?

Can't wait to get my twin plugs hooked up

Pull the caps off and peek through the sides and you will see the belt.
You will see if the belt is fairly new or worn with the plies already showing.

wyd/ryd, does the unit have the aftermarket vent tube? porsche produces an update kit, the ozone created within the distributor's cap areas tends to "rot" the belt, leading to premature belt failure. inexpensive kit, get it. vk
