How many miles? What are your compression numbers? Is it leaking oil? How much?

It is a car I am interested in, 116k miles, it is leaking, have not had a PPI done yet so I don't have any details on compression etc. Just trying to get a ballpark figure on resealing one of these engines.

At that milage, it probably needs a valve job to replace valve guides which are the main wear item. Do it your self for maybe $1500. New Pistons and cylinders are min $3600.

Of course, once you tear into it, you can follow the thread above.

Also, if you have leaks from oil lines, figure another $1500 for new lines. And then there is the pwdercoating of the sheet metal, cad plating of the fasteners, etc.

Get up to $10k doing it yourself pretty quickly.

A local garage quoted me $6000 - labor and seal kits. They're a really good shop!

Sealing the engine and the leaky cylinder head fix are typically two different things.

what, maybe a few thou to drop the motor and simply replace seals, now work or replacement of existing pistons/cylinders or exhaust valve guide replacement work i'd guess..
