Varioram

What's the market value for complete Varioram intake and OBDI?

964, US 993 thru '95, all n/a RoW 993 use 55 pin OBD1 DME and harness. All US/Can. '96 up 993 use 88pin OBD2 DME and harness

Since the only OBD1 vram were ROW, either '95 993RS or n/a RoW 993 They are sortta popular to con vert US/Can. 964 or '95 993 to vram

Thanks Bill. I figured it's the DME but was confused that there is actually an OBDI with Varioram. Very cool!

by the way the v-ram intake and wiring isn't OBD1 or OBD2 specific. there is 1 wire to activate the resonance flap and 1 wire to activate the v-ram mechanism. So any vram can be adapted to any earlier engine

Bill, if I'd want to change intake on my 90 to Vram, can I use existing harness and DME that I have now or do I have to obtain Euro OBDI and harness? Thanks in advance.

You would have to adapt it to use the 993 vram MAF, that is is much harder to do.

probably gain more for that 964 engine with a steve wong chip and a muffler bypass mod anyways...and for a helluva lot less money and trouble, rideshoot&drink.

well...let me just say that I have a unique opportunity to build an engine...

There is a VR intake on ebay right now. Search "varioram intake." Whatever it fetches is the going rate.

I don't agree with Bigchill's assessment. Sorry, a chip is not a miracle worker and it doesn't change the laws of physics.

V-Ram is good if you want to broaden the torque curve. Peak is HP slightly increased w/ v-ram. If you manage the rpm band (as with a close ratio gear box, there is not much to gain with v-ram).

If you leave it in one gear and want it to pull across the rpm band, vram is likely worth the trouble.

I think the cost for the setup is $2k ish. Heck, you could buy a complete vram engine (used) for $7k to $10k and sell the long block to recoup most of the money. That would include DME and harness. If you buy OBDII, keep some $ aside for disabling drive block, if your chassis is not compatible with drive block. Steve Weiner charges $1200 to disable.

doug, i'm thinking in terms of horsepower..that the diff's in varioram alone vs. a chip and muffler bypasses is about roughly the same. now as for the diff in the torque curve, i really don't know off hand. if v-ram gives more torque 'pull' i can see why some would desire that.

Understood. It is not really fair to compare one point on a data graph and draw too many conclusions. It would be like buying a suit based on pant length alone.

area under the torque is to most people's advantage, especially in non-racing applications.

Just my $0.02.
Bill's $0.02 is more valuable than mine.

yeah..bill's $.02 is worth at least a couple bucks!

and i agree..since i don't track, i'd rather have that fat torque under the curve.
