993 info please?????
I am thinking of buying a 1995 993 coupe with 38k on the clock, the car is black black . I am having a ppi done by a great guy. I know the maintenance is harder to DIY I dont mind, I just dont want to be plagued with sensor lights going on and off. I want a trouble driver like my 3.2 carrera. I am spoiled on dependable, any info appreciated, thanks JL

Now in 993 land ...

Not sure where you got the idea that the 993 is a christmas tree of sensor lights going off? The 993 is just as dependable as a 3.2 Carrera. Also, it actually does require less maintenance than the earlier cars. Oil change interval is longer - most people that have them as 3rd cars only change once a year and there is no valve adjustment. I have had my 993 for 3 years now and only have done routine maintenance in about 15k miles driven. If I look at the PO receipts, there was nothing out of the ordinary wrong over the first 9 years of ownership either.

JL:
Please add your location to your profile so we know where you are. That way we can help you better. I am fairly new to the 993 scene, but it seems to me that the combination of a thorough PPI, preventive maintenance and time spent here and on Rennlist will save you thousands in the long run. I upgraded from an '89 3.2 Carrera to a '94 Carrera 4, everyone said I would love it and they were absolutely right! Good luck! Paul.

JL,
I too owned a 1987 3.2 Carrera Coupe and purchased my 95 993 15 months ago. No valve jobs required and most of the things you can DYI on your 3.2 are very dooable on a 993. It is a newer car, so some of the parts and work will be a little more expensive. But, since my 993 is 8 years newer, there is not as much to do! I loved my 87, but the 993 is a BEAUTIFUL, GREAT car! Do not hesitate! Jerry

I also had a 3.2 and sold it for a 993. The 993 is very DIY-able. Stuff is packed in there a bit tighter, and there's more to remove before you get to things, but isn't that part of the fun?
Chris.
