Varioram vs. Non-Vario 993 engines

As a daily driver, is the varioram much more impressive or very similar to the normal engine.

Plus, a chip in a '95 closes the gap even more.

Really?! I thought it was a 12% increase in the midrange power and torque? I would have that was noticeable for sure.

Oh well.

About a 20% increase at 4k rpm. I guess it depends on your definition of "noticeable". Or "worth it".

Its a 20 lbs-ft difference from 1200 RPM to around 5000 RPM,...

Above 5500, they are pretty much identical.

Steve, do you feel there is a noticeable enough difference to warrant looking for a 97 vs. a 95?

For racing, not really since the engine is always above 5500.

On the street, thats another matter and the V-Ram is well worth the $$$$.

That's what I wanted to know. If I buy one, it will probably be 90% street.

The 95 guys will tell you it's not noticeable.

Also, you can chip a later car as well and still be ahead, so that's no excuse. The chipping is a bit more complicated however.

There are other improvements on the later 993 (rear suspension comes to mind) that would be upgrades to a 95.

Cheers, George

I also see substantial measurable midrange torque gain when the vram intake is installed on a 964 motor.

At first I was wondering about '95 vs later. I went with the '95 because in my county there's no sniff tests for emissions on pre-'96 cars. Later I can do exhaust stuff that involves losing the catalyst and getting a better exhaust note. Also, less likely to have CEL issues, but most important was the coincidental appearance of a local 2-owner VERY clean car within a week of my SC getting totalled. A 'known entity' with all the records in the shop's computer, and had just had its 60k service. I'm just fine with the '95.
