993 mirror motor replacement

Got the new mirror motor, took the mirror off the car, now stumped by the electrical plug the motor wires go into. this plug connects the mirror wire harness to the harness in the door. How do you get the connector out of the mirror base so you can insert the new wires?

993 mirror motor update

What a major pain in the arse...
got the mirror off easy enough, but could not figure out how to remove the electrical plug the motor leads go in... finally cut and spliced the wires.

There has to be a better way, I hope someone else can educate everyone...

But nice to have a working mirror on the car.

i have a similar problem: how do you pull the wires with your "tool"? keep in mind that i have a 964 and assume the connector is the same. also, i have yet to remove the glass from my flag housings.

The tool I mentioned is the actual sanctioned way from Porsche, my mechanic showed it to me and I just called it BS but he insisted it is the actual tool.. Anyway I have never used it but he mentioned you push the pins and wiggle them until you dislodge them from the connector. That's all I know, when I replaced my flags with Aero I didn't cut any wires I just let the connector fall into the door.

Thanks Oracle.

The connector fits through the stalk of the mirror housing and can be dropped into the door then? I thought it was too big around but, again, I have not yet opened it up. I'd like to do what you did and not cut wires if possible. Then it will be an easy-ish task to return to stock or change out if necessary.

If you have aero with motors in it then you have to rewire the pins or you can buy the adaptor/connector so no wires are cut... Who wants to cut wires anyway? Good luck!

My problem was that I could not get either the wires to come out of the connector nor would the connector come out of the flag. The red end of the connector came off, note it does have numbers on it so you can see which wires/colors correspond to the number. The issue was once this was off, the wires would come out, but then threading in the wires back into the connector was not easily done. The wires have to go down the neck of the flag, and into the correct 1/16" hole in the connector. I know it would be doable if the connector comes out of the flag, but I could not get my connector loose. Ran out of time and patience. Good luck to all who try, I would like to know how the connector comes out.
