Bought a 964
Bought a 964
After three years with a 993, I found it too comfortable. Was curious as to how these two cars differ in performance. Is the 993 much quicker ? Thanks Don't have any pics yet, but it is the white/blue 91 c2 that is in the for sale section.

Cool, Welcome to the last of the "hand built" 911's. Love to see some pictures. Cant offer anything on performance as I have never driven a 993.

I saw that car in the classifieds, it looked like a NICE 964. 993s are marginally quicker due to more factory hp. 964 has 247 hp, 993 has 270 (1995)or 282 (96-98).Please post some pics.

It varies so much from car to car. A Varioram 993 will outpace a 964 in the stoplight grand-prix due to it's V8-like grunt, but a strong 964 will be pretty even with a weaker 993.
A Steve Wong chip and a primary muffler bypass pipe will put you even with, or a little ahead of a stock 993. As mentioned above, the 993 in stock form is not very fun or very quick at the track. The 5-link rear suspension was not set-up to be a track weapon, but rather for a comfortable ride and as a safety net for unskilled drivers. Every 993 I've driven at the track had profound bump-steer in the rear due to the constantly changing toe angles at or near the limit. Having said that, a set of Bilstein struts goes a long way toward calming them down. And the ERP adjustable links are the key to getting the toe curve corrected, but then it starts to be less of a street car and more of a racecar The 993 is a better daily driver car and is better mannered and comfortable/quiet.

Welcome to the world of 964 ownership. They are a blast. Never driven a 993 myself so I cannot offer any comparisons but the 964's are a blast to drive. There are allot of good modifications available that will make it even better. Post pictures ASAP.

Good Job!
My FIL has a 993 targa. The 964 is much more fun to drive. The 993 in comparison feels very heavy and removed and the steering lacks feel. I also prefer the looks of the 964. His 993 also feels very tight inside, maybe it's the thicker door panels with the big speaker box? I'd love to own another 964. Especially white with blue interior!

One word describes this car....WOW,
I have owned a 911 of some sort for 17 years, a 3.2 for 10, Recently sold my 993 of three years. But a 964 is something special ![]() Will post cobalt blue interior pics soon. Not for everyone's taste, but after 17 years of black, ![]()

One more 964
Looking at your cars in the garage I do not know what to look at the cars or the garage. Wish mine was like that what a great place to hang out, I need to bring my 964 over and put it right in the middle of your two cars and the garage would be complete.
Seems like a nice area you are in ..

I agree with RW964 I envy your garage ;-) If you had a couple of lifts in there you could've kept the 993 and had room for more...you could then give us a nice photo of "911: the evolution!"
Welcome to 964 ownership...I didn't know what I was getting into when I first got mine and have been pleasantly impressed ever since! |
