Just thinking of selling the 88 and looking for a 96 and up 993 (I have heard the 95 has the most problems) Any info from someone who has made this switch or any other info would be great. Thanks in advance.

Before my 1997 993 S, I had a 1986 911 cab. Maintenance is definately more involved (2 oil filters, 12 spark plugs etc) but definately doable. I've done every possible maintenance item on my car and my brothers '96 cab and also changed out both suspensions without too much difficulty.
Good luck. Jim |

Forget that crap about 95s...
My car has 104k miles on the original clutch and suspension. NO big problems. Had to replace the wiring harness and head gasket seals.
The 95 is OBD1 which means the chip can be removed and replaced very easily. 96 cant have any computer work done and 97 later needs the whole DME removed and shipped to be reprogrammed - certailny not convenient. You cant feel the h.p. difference in the Varioram that the 96 and later cars have, plus I prefer my plastic, lighter intake over the varioram metal one. Other than that, they are the same car and the prices are much better for a 95. Of course if you can afford a later car, then go for it, but just don't buy into that crap about the problems with the 95s. As far as maintenance, check out P-CAR for all your DIY directions. It really is pretty easy to do this stuff and save a lot of money. Good luck, E. J. |

I agree with EJ, the so called "problem" '95 is way overblown. Just like Porsche observers like to point out the highly flawed 915 gearbox vs the G-50. Hogwash. Personally I just picked up a '96 993 but I would not have hesitated to go for a '95 had the circumstances been different. It's the same car more or less.
