993 engine noise at 3200 rpm

I have a loud high frequency tapping sound at 3200 to 4000 rpm. Seems to be coming from the driver side front cylinder bank. I used a stethoscope and can't find it anywhere else. It's so loud that it shocks you. It stills runs fine. Hot or cold, the sound is the same. Any ideas?

Let's hope it is. I'd pull the valve cover for a look before I'd run it any more.

Thanks! I'll pull the valve covers to get a closer look.

Looks like it was a collapsed lifter. There were ridges and heat discoloration where the foot was bouncing on the cam. Thanks!
