Targa ?
Some questions for current or former Targa owners:
- How does the interior noise level compare to a coupe? - Are leaks an issue? - Does the sun wear out the top & seals? And if so, how quickly? - Are there security issues? (i.e. easier to break into) I am looking for a 964 to use as a daily driver and live in Jacksonville, FL. We get a fair amount of rain and heat. I can park it in a garage at night, but would have it outside while at work. |

answers in order:
higher yes 10 years or so with a knife pretty easy. A 964 Targa is a lot tighter fit and less noise than the earlier models. There are covers which cover just the glass and top to shelter from the sun. I love my Targa but you have to be a topless guy or not.

Targa top refurbed....
Have 92 C2 Targa.
Had the full monty refurb done by Cars Inc. in 2002. Was about ~ $900 at the time. Targa Top Restoration. VERY pleased with their work and end result. Very tight, windows seal well, no leaks, "quieter" than before refurb (can't compare to coupe), and looks great. Store it in front sometimes; other times put in the rear seat area. ![]() Cheers, Obbie |

just purchased my 1990 964 Targa. Drove it from Phoenix back to San Francisco (~800 miles). Can't compare it to the coupe, but the targa is dead silent up until about 80 MPH.
I start getting some wind noise from the center section at that point in time. I notice if I crack the windows, there's less noise from that part of the top, probably due to the air pressure. I drove about 300 miles with the top off, and it's great fun. I had the top cleaned and conditioned yesterday, it was a little dry, and now looks beautiful and new again. Still getting the noise, but I'm going to spend some time this week trying to work on the seals as best I can. |

I would guess the targa is quieter than the convertible? If so anyone has an idea if its drastic?
I really like convertibles but on my former M3 without a wind screen it was quite windy and noisy... Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4 |

How about the 993 targa model? I've heard there are issues with the glass top rattling. I also read that the 1997 models fixed the issue. Anyone have any thoughts, recommendations, etc?

Our '96 doesn't rattle or whistle when everything is adjusted and the seals are clean. I discovered I needed to put a little Loctite on the adjustment screws to keep things tight.

How difficult is the adjustment process? Something an owner could do? Or better left for a certified mechanic?
