993 exhaust options doing my head in - help from those in the know..........

OMG.......existing threads and you tube clips are doing my head in.........

The brief is simple, I want an exhaust solution to assist with making the engine rev freer / better, that is close to stock sound (i.e. quiet)

The V8-ish gurgle sound is very cool, but not for me........

I don't have smog laws in NZ, so want to look at de-cating and running a standard muffler.

I do like the sound of RSR mufflers, but understand this is acoustically cosmetic only, and will not actually make the car revv better or go faster.

What is the quietest de-catted solution that doesn't pop and gurgle......??

Your help (and sound clips if poss) would be appreciated please.

Thanks in advance........

Changing the 993's dual mass flywheel to a single mass flywheel "will make the car revv better." Changing the mufflers will have little impact on way that the car revs, but the change has the potential to help the engine create minor gains in horsepower--an advantage which is typically only available in the engine's higher rpm range.

I have Fabspeed headers and a Fabspeed two out muffler on my 89 with a 95 3.6 engine and the sound is definitely Porsche not big block Chevy !
Friend of mine used to drive his 97 around with earplugs because it was too loud with the Fister modified mufflers ...

Cheers
Phil

I put fabspeeds on my 95 993. Deep tone and awesome @ 4k rpms and up. I like fdmotorsports ssk tho. And you can't beat the customer service Darin gives on his stuff. Fister will be less $ unless you find some used fabspeeds

i have a fabspeed system on my 3.6 and would definitely look at a plug to put in one of the outlets, the drone at motorway speeds is horrendous. great exhaust, just needs that plug to make it more usable.

The 993 stock exhaust flows very well. Definitely doesn't restrict revs. As mentioned above, LWF is what's required for it to rev up and rev match quickly. If you would like to change the sound, mufflers are all you need. Mine had baffles modified in the early days by SCARGO and sounds great. Not sure what the work entailed.

For a great sound, I installed a cat-bypass three years ago and kept stock mufflers. Excellent sound, easy on the ears at speed etc. I will be removing in a month to put cat back on for possible sale. The cat-bypass (stainless) in perfect shape will be for sale. $300.00 plus shipping. Thanks, mark
