Transmission Issues

Hello guys! I need some help!

I have a 1993 C4, and I was driving to practice. After a while of driving the clutch became a bit glitchy. I thought the pin was broken on the clutch pedal because that happened before... But after practice, I unscrewed the wooden board, and the pin was ok! So I didn't know what it was so I drove home... It was a 15 minute ride so I though it would be ok! i stopped on the red light... i took off, 1 gear good, 2nd good and when I put it in 3rd the engine was revving but the car didn't move... So I stopped and tried to take off again, but it didn't go... i can put the car in any gear without pressing the clutch... its like its not grabbing...

what do you guys think that could be?

any help would be appreciated.

p.s. Please excuse me if I wrote it funny, I'm from Europe!

thanks again, Sven

I thought the transmission was going into the gears, but he has engine revving, etc. particularly in the higher gears. Sounds like worn clutch disk or a pressure plate with a broken or weakened diaphragm.

Agreed...I wasn't sure that OP was saying that he was sure the car was going into gear, but rereading it I see what he was saying. If he is sure that it is going into each gear, then it is almost certainly clutch/pressure plate related.

Also, could be clutch plate binding on corroded input shaft and not re-engaging when the pedal is released.

thanks for your reply guys!

i checked the linkage and i also lifted the car and removed protective plastic to check if there were any issues under there but everything seems fine...

i mean i can put the lever (shift) in any gear, even if I don't press the clutch pedal... Feels like it got stuck in neutral and i cant put it in any gear...

Pyrex, I'm afraid it's going to have to be disassembled for the final verdict. Whether it's corroded splines on the input shaft as TMc993 suggested, or a worn driven plate or a pressure plate that isn't doing its job, I believe you're going to have to drop the engine to figure it out and fix it. Best of luck and keep us posted.
