Bumperette delete modification I've been working on.

A couple of years ago I was inspired by a guy over on Rennlist forums who had made an insert that mounted to the two bolts for each of the bumperette and filled the hole left when the bumperettes were removed. All that was needed was the European longer side marker lights and a bit of paint and you would go from this...

to this....

Anyway, he sent me the last set he'd managed to get from the mold before it had deteriorated so much that it was essentially useless and I got it into my head that rather than cast these pieces, a 3D model to 3D print approach would make more sense.

So that is what I have done. Through various iterations, I have worked on a design that I hope will fit as many 993's as possible. The main problem being that which the mounting bolts seems consistent from car to car, the actual position of the hole on the bumpercover varies from left to right and from car to car.

It started with this.....

It got reduced down to this....

Then a ridge was added back to help hold it in place and seal any gaps caused by the inconsistency of the cut-out......

I took it down to it's most minimal form but this way the bumpercover would have to be removed to fit and it would have to be glued in place rather than use the existing top bolt no longer needed by the bumpercover.

Anyway, that's where I'm at currently. I have test prints coming back from the fabricators and hopefully I'll be in a position to say that this obsession is over for me with what I hope is a successful test fitting on my car as well as a couple of other local 993's.

Probably a bit ahead of myself to start selling them just yet. But I'll certainly update how the test parts fit when I get them next week. If they fit, I'll look into maybe getting a batch of them made in something resilient and finishable.
