993 Sunroof issues - deflector hinge
My 1996 993 broke the wind deflector hinge. When I install the new hinge it does not sit flush - see the attached picture (also notated). If I ease off the screws that hold the plate that contains the pin on which the hinge sits the hinge sits flat but there is no way that is a proper fix. I notice on the other side the plate that hold the hinge has a slight bend in it that lowers the hinge pin and allows the deflector hinge to sit flat.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What is preventing it from sitting flush? Is it hitting something or is it binding at the pivot point until you loosen the screws? I just checked mine and I don't see a slight bend in the metal channel where the pivot pin is and the hinges move very freely. The only interference I noticed was the hinge coming into slight contact with the channel lock bracket (half moon looking thing with a single screw) when it was in the closed position, but I just loosened the screw and moved the bracket aside a bit. Probably not your issue but I happen to notice that while I was in there. I replaced the felt and seals last year and this is the first time I've inspected the hinges.
Here are some pics of mine with the hinge all the way up and then as far down as it can be in the closed position. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk |
