996 can't open front trunk

i just purchased 1999 996. the battery recently went dead but i wasn't able to change it because i couldn't open the front trunk. all i could do was charge the battery through the engine compartment. i still need to get the trunk open. i think that the latch is jammed because the emergency cable didn't work either. is there any other way to get the trunk open? i don't think i can get the bumper off to drill it out. any suggestions would be helpful. thanks.

I think if you used a battery charger plug it to the cigarette lighter will have enough power to activate the hood to open.
