OK, I just did the "sport exhaust" muffler conversion (not the same as the FisterD) discussed above and documented in pictures by FPB111. Fantastic improvement!

As Goldilocks would say "not too soft, not too loud, but just right!" This is the way my '03 C2 should have sounded as it came from the factory. No droning, no annoying resonance, no backfires, just pure Porsche sound. Sounds great when driven in anger.

Which Sport exhaust system did you install

The one using the technique described in this thread by Wheel Dynamics, Jared at Pelican Parts, and shown in pictures by FPB111. Very simple, but not the same plumbing as used in the Fister D hack.

I hope so. Mine are due from him any day for my '04. I ended up opting for the powder coating as well, not completely sure why Really looking forward to getting them installed.

I think what I find most interesting is the sound of the muffler gets more mellow each time you drive the car. It seems to me that as time goes by, the sound of my car is smoother and smoother as the exhaust breaks in Maybe it is just my imagination

I'll be doing this in the next two weeks so I'll let you know how I make out. Til then, do like the olden days.....get some balloons.....blow em up (not full), and tie em to the undercarriage so that they hit against the spokes of the rims and as you go faster........they get louder.
Howdy,
Did you take pics of the process, particularly what you found when you opened up the muffler? Any would really help with my planning..

This surgical proceedure is what we used to perform on our older 911's, back around '81. We also did the balloon thing to our bikes, in the mid '50s....
Happy Motoring

Sport Exhaust?

How hard is it to remove the exhaust and what all is involved? Do you need to remove the rear bumper like shown in the pics or can you remove it from under the car on a lift? I'm really wanting to convert mine but just don't wanna get in over my head! Thanks...

When we did mine, we found it easier to lift the car and remove the wheels. The most difficult part is getting my big hands into those small places. It is only I think four bolts on each side and then you need to manipulate the cans out Good luck. It took us a half day and two twelve packs. We could have probably done it quicker with out the chips and salsa

To remove the mufflers, the bumper must come off.

I would never disagree with a pelican parts specialist, but we did it without taking the bumper off. We did it on a lift. Maybe that is why it took us a half a day

The bumper isnt that difficult to remove. Takes maybe 15 minutes.

I sure couldnt get the mufflers off without removing it.

I did this to my mufflers, 60.00 bucks at the local muffler shop.

Put the car up on my drive up ramps. The mufflers came off and went back up without removing the bumber.

Sounds great !!

The best sound comes from connecting the inlet to the outlet (partial bypass).

My mufflers are the standard 3.4L (1999 996). I will post later the actual pictures from my muffler, the picture I posted is what I used to show the muffler shop what I wanted.

Pesuazo, what kinda sound does this give compared to the other way described in the previous post/page? Do you have pics of yours and have you installed them yet? Is it a real deep throaty sound or just a mello tone over stock? Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

It is quite throaty, but not obnoxious as a straight bypass.

The sound is awesome, I have them installed for a while yet.

This time I am posting pictures of my actual mufflers.

No need to remove the bumper, you will just need to flex it outwards a little bit for the mufflers to drop and to go back up.

Yes, guy told me he drilled a hole as close as he could to the size of the bypass pipe, he told me it was PITA too.
