cast or forged ??

I'm just starting to research getting new wheels for my 997.1S.
Obviously cast is cheaper than forged, but cast is more in my price range.

Should I be aware of any gotcha's or issues with either ??

Thanks in advance.

If you're going to take the car to the track a great deal forged might be better. For everything else cast is just fine. In fact, cast is fine also for occasional track days. Check the weight as well, some cast wheels can be quite heavy.

I believe that all Porsche supplied rims, BBS, for our water cooled 911s are cast now.

Lenelsa,

As you have seen there is a great difference in price between cast wheels and forged wheels. We have been around the forged wheel business long enough to know that the forged wheel maker is not profiting any greater than the lower priced cast wheel maker, in fact it is likely the other way around. Qaulity raw products cost money to purchase and then turn into quality finished products.

There is nothing wrong with a quality cast wheel. Note I said quality wheel. For the street, they are likely just fine. If you plan to track your car, consider using the OE wheels or an aftermarket Forged wheel.

We sell a lot of wheels made by Fikse and Forgeline, two of the premier brands for forged wheels. If I can answer any questions, shoot me an email or a PM.

Hopefully your goal is to "upgrade" (quickly becoming my pet peeve most misused word in Porsche world) your wheels to something more pleasing to the eye without degrading the safety or performance of your car. IMO choosing a wheel that is designed for your Porsche, hubcentric, simular offsets & lighter than the wheels you are replacing is more important than cast or forged. Casting processes have improved alot over the years & roll forging seems to be the latest & greatest.

Any quality wheel will have the correct lug seats, correct centerbore and correct offsets (usually slightly more aggessive than stock) wether it be cast or forged.

Like I said, there are some crappy cast wheels, and there are some very good ones...
