'85 M491 Coupe
|
Need some support, this looks like a good group to get it from...
I bought an '85 M491 911 last year, love the car and its been great to me. But I'm now thinking of selling and getting a newer model (996) to replace it. The reason is that over the years I've had many classic cars, from Porsches to Muscle cars to beaters. I'm just over 'tinkering' with cars. Sad, but I just don't get the pleasure of spending time doinking around with older cars. So I'm thinking about selling my '85 and getting something more refined that both my wife and I can enjoy without the worries of maintaining an older car. Do I like the 996 body style more than the '85? No, not necessarily. But now, when I drive I just want to enjoy the drive and not worry about the issues that come with an older car. Trust me, I feel like I'm selling out who I used to be, but this is under consideration.
And finally a question to people that have owned both a mid-year Carrera and a 996, at 6'8" I barely squeeze into my 85, I haven't sat in a 996 long enough to adjust seat, etc. is the general consensus that the 996 has more headroom and legroom? Don't need much, I'm used to folding up but a little relief would be nice |

Here is a recent discussion on the 996. What needs to be done is discussed in this thread:

I don't think there is anything unusual in your thinking. I love working/tinkering on old cars but as I've gotten older the 997 looks very appealing. I know my wife would enjoy riding along more as well so that is a little bonus.
