2005 Carrera Pauses

All, I have a 2005 Carrera with 48000 miles. Today I went to leave a light and the car paused when I gave it gas to leave in 1st gear. Then it decided to go and was fine. About 5 minutes later during a turn in 2nd gear, it paused again, no power to go forward, then it took off again. It did this 3 times in a period of 15 minutes, then it never did it again until later in the afternoon, about 3 hours later.
Fortunately it only did it one time.
Most of the time, this never happens, but does on occasion and is very unpredictable.

Any ideas?
