Exclamation Transmission shop in northeast (NJ if possible)

Have a 2006 997 S. Looking for a tranny shop in NJ. Have a chatter in 1st gear. The lovely dealer said cheapest solution is replace entire tranny at nearly 9k. That doesnt work for me since it works w/ no issues just a loud annoying chatter. They said it is prob a tooth broken off of 1st gear. Doesnt kick out of gear or anything. Found main shaft w/ 1st gear (from what I read they are part of each other....) for $1300. Also found a few rebuilts for around $3500 so trying to find best solution and a good shop to do the work. Any suggestions??? Currently reside in Jersey City NJ (near NYC if you dont know where that is). All/Any help is greatly appreciated. Thx

I would highly recommend pulling the gearbox and shipping it to Gbox:

PORSCHE RACING AND STREET GEARBOXES-GBOX Transmission

We have used them for everything from small problems to major rebuilds, always do an outstanding job.

Take it to Mike Bavarro at Body Motion in Ocean. You won't be sorry.

Hey Matt,
clearly this is a sensitive issue. I was asking if anyone else has used either the one you recommend or the one JFP is recommended (that you clealy despise lol).

Always good to hear both sides of the story, although after your 2 posts, I would probably stay away from Gbox. maybe someone can Alert them to see if they wish to come and defend themselves.

chamilun,
I have decided to remove my posts. In retrospect, I found them to be in violation of two long standing policies I attempt to live by with respect to my membership. I don't mudsling. It's immature and I don't want to be that kind of person. And second I try to keep my membership here one of comradery and as part of the fraternity of P-car owners. While my area of expertise does on occcasion allow me to guide and assist a member in getting their gearbox repaired or figure out some sort of trouble issue they may be having, I am not here to self promote. My posts last night we in violation of both of those personally imposed rules.

As such I apologize to you guys for dumping that stuff on you and have taken those comments down. As I indicated in one of my posts, interested parties can research Gbox on their own and draw their own conclusion, exclusive of my clearly very biased opinion on their shop and business practices.

Regards,

Matt

I agree with all your points. Maybe service & rates vary from customer to customer at G-Box.

Check them out at ripoffreport.com. Just look up gbox and see my story with them

http://www.ripoffreport.com/r/GBOX-Porsche-Gearbox-specialists/Boulder-Colorado-80803/GBOX-Porsche-Gearbox-specialists-5757-Arapahoe-Ave-lied-about-repairs-put-used-parts-935100

This wasn't even a case of poor workmanship but misrepresentation and fraud. I wouldn't recommend them

Cort is a customer of mine. I was not aware that he had a 50 ton press and the tools to do these gearboxes. Always good to hear of another resource for these because they actually are not an easy gearbox to rebuild. Not like the old G50 family of gearboxes. These new boxes are kind of tricky.
