Frunk won't open-dead battery

2009 TT
I've pulled the fuse box panel and pulled the positive connector out and attached my battery charger....all I get is a 'trouble' light on my charger. I checked the charger on another car (that has a good battery) and it works fine. I have the negative clamp of my charger on my door latch.

Nothing. And btw, my key won't come out of the ignition now either. I'm in the process of trying to find some jumper cables and try to hook up a real battery and try it that way.

Any ideas? And how do you get in the frunk if this method does not work?

Thanks

Nick

In the fuse box there's a +12V jumper post. connect a jumper cable to it (or battery charger), connect the negetive terminal to the door hinge or latch. That gives power to pop the trunk.

I think the process is also outlined in the owner's manual.

Did this.
Doesn't work. Zero power to anything.
Is the frunk manually operable?

Hooked jumpers to fuse box and door jamb to good battery. Nothing. Zero. Can't even remove my key.
Flatbed on it's way. Crap.

Key should come out even when the battery is dead. It sounds like your ignition switch has gone bad. Do a search the plastic switch part breaks and jams the whole thing. Replacements cost $12 NAPA- $300+dealer.

There is a manual frunk release cable that lives behind the front bumper along the right side. Usually accessable from the right wheel well after you remove the tire and inner fender. Some times visible from under the front of the car or can occasionally be accessed through the side marker light hole with a hooked wire (coat hanger) after you snap the marker light out.

Door jam is not always a good ground. Try the brake or clutch pedal or unpainted bolt under dash.
FPB111 has the manual solution.
Lift front wheels off ground to relieve all pressure off the steering. Key may just loosen itself. In any event, get the battery issue solved first before you spend time on the key. I bet the key will come out in any event once you have electrical power and jiggery-poker the key while moving the steering wheel left-right.
Good luck.
Johan

Thank you all. Jumper box from tow truck got hood released and we were good from there on.

FYI the key DOES become locked inside the ignition when the car goes completely dead per Brumos.

I would add this. Take your tow hook OUT OF YOUR TRUNK and put it in your drivers compartment RIGHT NOW! Once you're locked out of your frunk and you need your car towed, you can't get this out either, so it makes it all the more difficult for the tow truck to load your car. The tow hook makes it easy for them.

Keep it inside the car.

I found this out as well, when a jump box is hooked up to the positive terminal at the fuse box, only the key fob buttons open the frunk, not actual button on the door jamb.... I messed around with this for fifteen minutes once, doing everything right but hitting the button on the key... Glad you got in the car!

Interestingly enough, my key fobs (even with new batteries) now do not lock the car or pop the trunk. Any ideas?

Nick is your remote in stand by mode? Unlock you drivers door with the key and keep the door closed. Then push button 1 on the remote. Try to see if you key fob has been activated.
