What would you do next? Upgrades?

I plan to do 6 or 7 events this year. Already signed off to run solo. I've done about 25 DE's over the last 3 years. My plan is to get (race) licensed next year. Probably do DE and Time trials this year.

About my car...Thank's to the P.O. alot of stuff was already done.

Suspension:
Just found out I had 22&27mm torsion bars already. I have gone through everything on the suspension, lowered, poly bushings, turbo tie rods, new koni adjustables all around. I still have stock sway bars with new rubber bushings.

Engine:
2.7 CIS rebuilt by P.O., I don't have documentation but it pulls strong to the limiter, may even have the 964 cams. SS-I's, Dual in/out flowmaster, Pressure fed tensioner upgrade, No smog devices on the engine.

Safety:
5 pt harnesses, roll bar and fire extinguisher

Wheels/Brakes:
Rebuilt calipers with rubber lines. Pads are Ferodo. 17"Kumho Ecsta 235/45 & 255/40 tires

What would you do next? SS brake lines? Aftermarket sway bars?
Kill switch?

I want to keep this car steetable but not like a daily driver. I don't plan to race this car. Problably purchase a prepped car or build one from scratch.

What aspect of the car is lacking? In other words, what handling/performance/reliability problem are you trying to fix?

Doing mods for the sake of doing mods is fine, but I would think hard about "why" for any dollar you spend on a track car.

I think you should put the money you are going to spend on mods, and put it toward a real race car, and track that until you decide to get your competition license.

Just my opinion, but hey, you asked

Tom

Front mounted oil cooler with proper ducting.

Private driving instruction.

Mega seat time.

Good luck and have a fun, safe year.

I second emcon5's comments. If your goal is to improve your lap times in anticipation of racing, spend the money on more events or maybe a professional racing school such as Skip Barber/Bonderant/Spennard/etc. DE's are great for learning how to drive on a track, but the pro-schools really focus on how to methodically (and safely) reduce your lap times in a competitive situation. Not to mention learning how to go fast in a different type of car (say a formula car or a FWD car for example) always pays dividends once you get back into your primary ride.

If your goal is to just pour your money into your car so that you have a neater car then the next guy, you can start anywhere.

Duh! Funny how you do something for fun and don't even consider your goal. I have thought about a professional racing school. Great suggestions.

well, "goal" is a broad term. It doeesn't have to be lofty...but along the lines of what Tom asked...what is lacking? In my case, I have very specific goals: to be competitive in IP class racing with POC and get my cup license. Towards that end, I have 13 points worth of modifications I can do and still stay in IP. I need suspension work and a bit more rubber. To qualify for cup school I'm supposed to have 6 formal TT events under my belt, but I'll only have 4. However I've done a fair number of other track events over the past 2 years so that will help with my "experience" part of the application.

seat time, seat time, seat time...

don't need a kill switch on THIS car unless it's the one you'll be using for racing school, but then you'd need a full cage too (at least w/ nasa)

don't bother w/ sways. if your car handles how you like it, then there's no point. it *could* be a little stiffer in the rear, but if you're GOING to get a full blown race car then there's no point doing anything to this one. w/ a car this soft, if you're not lifting a wheel it means there is a lot more reserve/capability in the car that you're not tapping into... lots of seat time is the best option for now. you should be eating up 3.6's that run in your group... then you'll be ready for the next step.

i didn't notice a bucket seat in the spec.... maybe try using one and see the difference.

also may be time to start getting used to/experimenting w/ r compound rubber.

Don't do anyting with that car but practise driving. I wish I had all the money back I spent on track mods for my three previous Porsches. With that money I could have had one nice fully prepped race car buy now. With the money I've spent over the last five years, today I could have bought a 99 or 00 Cup Car.

Rent a race car and attend SCCA or NASA's race school, now; assuming you want to do a club racing.

Renting a (professional-built) race car gives you good idea what are required for a car. SCCA or NASA race schools give you tastes of different classes.
