Mounting sparco evo 2 on tracks inside stock track
Hi, Pelican heads-
I'm a tall guy and in my first de my head would hit the roof when I had my helmet on. Since I want to do tt, I'm looking to purchase some sparco evo2 seats and was wondering if anyone had ever mounted the seats on a bracket assembly welded onto the center tube and longitudinal sp? without having to cut out the stock seat brackets to mount the seat low. I'm asking the question because I do not want to remove my stock seat mounting brackets just in case I want to reinstall the stock seats at a later date. Thanks for your comments. Dale

First off have you sat in a car with those seats mounted to the stock mounts? It is possible you may have enough head room. Also another thought is to mount the seats directly to the mounts seat adapters with no sliders. The seat will be in a fixed position so you will need to insure the correct location.
You more than likely will need to relocate the DME box under the seat before any of these alterations.

No seat will drop in between the factory rails. Without removing them you will always be limited by their height.
I am 6'3" with a long torso and had EVO2's in my car. To get headroom I eventually cut out the rails and welded in a subframe not unlike what you are talking about.

If you mount your seat directly to the frame rails on the car with out the sliders I would think you would have enough room. I'm 6ft and had a hard time with my evo 2 seats. My car has a sunroof. With out the sliders I fit fine and if you don't have a sunroof I think you will be fine this way.

thanks for the replys. I haven't sat in a car with the seats mounted to the stock rails and I look under my seats and I don't see the dme (don't know what this is) box. I was also thinking I wouldn't have a problem if I didn't mount the sliders, but wanted to keep this option just in case the wife wants to get on the track (she's 5'-4"). I'm going to laguna seca on dec 9th and I'm going to see about getting in a couple guys cars to check the fit. thanks again for your replies. best' dale

Sorry Dale, I didn't notice your sig had a 75 in it. Having to move my DME was still fresh on my mind since I did this recently.
Quite honestly I don't think there is much of a chance for you to mount the seat in a position that two people with that much height difference will both be able to use comfortably. One of you will have to compromise. The only solution I could think of is using a seat that has a removable cushion in the seat area. My seat has this and you can gain another 1 1/2" or so by removing the cushion. This along with sliders might work.

FYI, I am 6'2" and mounted my evo 2 to the stock seat rails, via the sparco side mounts. I have a sunroof and don't have a problem with head room. I assume when I gut my sunroof that I wouldn't be able to touch the top with my helmet. It's pretty close now. A custom mounting and removing the stock rails would be the best for me.

I tried using the flared outward aluminum side mounts to mount Evo's in my 72 911. No go, they fit stock width, and won't drop inside to lower the seat. Ended up using the steel mount and bending them straight. Warren is trying to get Italy to send the inward faired brackets but they weren't available a few weeks ago when I mounted my seats..
You might want to check, because the mounting area grew wider. I just don't know if it happened in 74 or for the next generation.

I don't take pics, and with seat in you can't see the mounts that were welded in
nutshell of the job....welded a 1 inch straps under the stock mounts and across the pan. About a 1/2 in above the floor. Then drilled to fit the bolt holes in the sparco side mounts. Seems like it dropped the seat about 3 inches. Good for me, I'm 6'3" and was banging my helmet on the cage with the stock location. I took out the sliders so the seat is fixed in position....so make sure not to weld in the cross straps till you get the bracket your going to use to mount the seats and can measure to fit you. The mounts were Sparco PN# 00490RS. We bent them to a straight L shape and they worked fine. The seat is solid, like it never was before.
