Upgraded the trailer a touch.
I have to share.
I bought and mounted a box on the front of my trailer today. Just in time for the Carolina PCA DE this weekend. Hooray! Now I can get the straps, hitch, and related items out of my garage. Now I just need to figure out how to tote the kid's bikes on the trailer, rather than inside my Durango.

Looks good. How about a removable bike rack on the car?

If there's room you could mount Thule Big Mouth or similar trays to the floor of the trailer next to the car.

Nicely done. It's amazing how easily you'll fill it up. Watch your tongue weight. I have a 6' wide aluminum diamond plate box on my tongue (just ahead of where yours is mounted). If I fill it with tools, jack, jack stands, spare parts etc I can easily add 250 lbs to my tongue weight. I ended up moving my 911 back on the trailer to compensate.

My junk box is mounted on the left rear corner, 1 spare is mounted on the right rear corner. It sure is nice to have a secure spot for all the gear.

Bill,
Is that the trailex box or a generic one that you adapted? I'm having a tough time stomaching the $395 when getting it from trailex. I also want to add a cheap harbor freight electric winch to mine.

Rear engine allows a big box upfront. Very nice. I had a plastic one on my old open trailer to hold straps, etc.
I have a Harbor Freight winch in my enclosed trailer. I's designed to be portable so it can be easily setup and removed. This is not exactly what I have , but it's close and less then $100. Looks to be a newer version. It's been plenty strong enough to pull the car up and in. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=96455

I would look at mounting just the bike mount (not the crossbars that span the raingutters) sideways across the top of the cargo box.
A thule bike mount may be best since they are designed for square bars and would probably sit flat against the top of the box.

Of course. I didn't intend for him to use the load bars, just the pieces that grab the wheels and/or forks.

No problem. I wasn't addressing your post. My focus was the recommendation to mount to the tool box.

Just a thought, but if there is enough room in front of the box, you could attach a hitch receiver under the tool box and use one of the bike racks you see on all the SUV's. Something like this.
http://www.rvtoyoutlet.com/c-listall/p-RV8170.html That would also make it removable if not needed. The only perm attached part is well out of the way.

Tire and Wheel Size Questions
Hi Capt. Carrera,
Nice car and nice trailer. I have a red 1985 Carrera and up until this year, have been running Kumho Victoracers on my 16X7s and 16X8s. Kumho stopped making the 205 45R16 and I changed to Pilot Sport Cups. I saw your car and wanted to touch base with you on wheel and tire size as well as tire brand to see what others with a similar car are running. Also, if you don't mind, what front anti-sway bar are you using? I just broke my second Weltmeister bar at California Speedway two weeks ago. The end snapped off. Any suggestions? Thanks. Jim |
