CIRPCA to host annual Pumpkin Run DE at Putnam Park
Central Indiana Region has the pleasure of hosting the 2010 Pumpkin Run, Performance Driver Education event at Putnam Park Road Course in Mt. Meridian, Indiana. We’ve got a weekend of fun filled activities planned including a great Saturday night dinner.
Don’t forget to wear your best costume after all this is Halloween weekend. We’ll be giving out awards at the Saturday evening dinner for the best costumes. Putnam Park is a 1.8-mile long, ten-turn road course with an excellent layout. The entire course can be seen from the pit area. Because the track is relatively flat, has high visibility with plenty of runoff room, it makes a terrific place to begin your high performance driving experience. It's great for experienced drivers as well and offers positive and negative camber corners, several high speed corners and a downhill main straight. For those who may not be quite ready for the DE experience, we will be offering our Intro to DE program. The program offers those interested in doing DE a chance to see what it’s all about. You’ll get the classroom experience and be able to ride with some of our experienced instructors. The Intro to DE program does require the use of a SA2000 or later helmet. A limited number of helmets will be available for rent at the track on a first come, first serve basis. For the track hound spouses and significant others that end up coming to the event, we’ll be offering a Track Widow’s Day Out on Saturday. For our instructors and those drivers with lots of track time (Groups A and B) we’ll be offering our Friday Lapping Day. Lunch is included for all participants on Friday prepared by the CIR pit crew. We promise not to burn anything this time. Putnam Park is 40 miles west of Indianapolis, just off I-70 near Cloverdale. While the Pumpkin Run has experienced good weather in previous years, we do ask that you come prepared for the best and worst Indiana can offer. We are looking forward to a great weekend of performance driving and sharing good times with old and new friends. Less experienced drivers will have an instructor riding with them on-track until the driver is comfortable with the course and the car. There will be four run groups and an instructor group to better match students of similar abilities in the same session. Run Group A will be for very experienced drivers in higher performance cars. Group B will be for experienced drivers new to Putnam Park or driving medium performance cars. Group C will be for student drivers with some experience and Group D will be for student drivers with little or no experience. There will also be scheduled classroom instruction/discussion sessions to discuss aspects of high performance driving with plenty of time for questions and answers. This is an excellent time to learn more about your car’s capabilities and enhance your driving skills. Join us for a great weekend of “unwipable” smiles and become a better driver on and off the track. The Event headquarters will be the spectacular Cambria Suites. Cambria Suites is located at 6014 Gateway Drive, Plainfield, IN 46168 (317) 279-2394. The Cambria Suites offers a wonderful lodging experience while offering a top notch restaurant and bar within the hotel. A block of rooms have been made available at a special Central Indiana Porsche Club room rate. Make sure you mention the Central Indiana Porsche Club to get the special room rate and register early before the rooms are all gone. Early event tech inspection and registration will be held Friday evening from 6-9pm along with a welcome reception at the Cambria Suites. We’ll also be having a special dinner on Saturday evening.
