Toyo Proxes RA1 Deal/Source
For those of you still running RA1s, I thought I'd update you on a deal. This isn't really a new deal, it's been posted on in the past, but I was supprised to see it still available.
RA1 255/40ZR17 for $125! TOYO Proxes RA1 255 40ZR17 @ TiresDirect.Net They might be older tires though. I have a set on the way and will let you guys know what the dates are. Here is the link to all the RA1s that they carry. Overall good prices, some sizes very good prices. TOYO Proxes RA1 @ TiresDirect.Net Cheers!

Thanks. Just paid for 4 of them, will pick them up tomorrow. They're a division of Cassidy Tire and their warehouse in Addison, IL is 30 min from my home. I believe KTL picked up some from them not too long ago as well.
FWIW, their stock is half '07 and half '10 date codes. The rep I just talked with on the phone said all the racers want the '07 tires because they're supposedly stickier???

Ryan,
Those prices are indeed no joke/hoax, and the tires can be very new too. I picked up a set of 235/255 RA-1 tires for intermediate/rain use on my racecar. The 255's I got have 2010 date codes on them. So anybody who's leary about these being old, don't be. These come from Cassidy tire in Addison IL and they're a good tire supplier. Old date, unused R comps are not a big deal. I've been buying closeout tires (Hankook Z211R) for a few years and they work fine. In fact I gave a pair of shaved Hankook Z211R copms to a friend who just turned his fastest laps yet on them, at one of our local tracks. 2005 date codes.

Cool, yeah I didn't hesitate to buy a pair.
I talked to them today and unfortunately 235 40/17s have been on back order since May. In fact, Toyo says that they won't have any more in the country for another 1-2 months! Anybody know of a source that has 235/40/17 in stock?

I got the same answer on the 235/40-17. 45 days. And the sales rep said they've been saying 45 days for 3 months.
Turns out I know one of the sales guys there- son of my neighbor. They bought truckloads of r-comps before the SCCA runoffs which were just a couple weeks ago, these are what's left. Oh, and I'm getting two of the tires shaved, leaving two at full tread for rain. As Kevin said- Cassidy is a family owned business that's been around a long time in the Chicago 'burbs.

To be honest I got a killer deal because I decided to go outside the norm and use 235/45-17 fronts. I didn't do it from a performance standpoint, I did it because I think they were only $80 each and I knew i'd only be using them for "rains." Nonetheless Cassidy's prices are still near impossible to beat when they clear them out like this.
Wonder how long it's going to take Toyo to ramp up production to meet demand for the RA-1 that everybody still wants and loves? ![]()

Does anyone know if Toyo still has the RA-1 225/45/17 tire in production? Would love to get a set of 255 rears but need matching 225 fronts.
Thanks, Dan |

Go to Toyo's home page and you'lll find the size/spec information on this page (click on the size & spec tab)
PROXES RA1 | Toyo Tires In the list, you'll see 225/45-17 is not listed. Sorry.........

Thanks Kevin, much appreciated. Now thats frustrating. I'm running 7's and 9's. I believe the 235 and 275 might be too much tire for them.
Thanks again, Dan |

Update...
235/40ZR17 Toyo RA1s are back in stock, just in time for the 2011 season! And a recap, the 255s that I got before were new tires, not old stock. The price went up for the 255s, but imo the RA1 from Tiresdirect.net is still the best bang for the buck for the budget minded. Happy New Year!

I just ordered a pair of R888's 225/50/15's for $129 + $11 for shipping each which is the best price I could find. In addition, the 205/50/15's I ordered had free shipping, since they were in their warehouse, but quantities are limited. Same free shipping deal on RA1's if they have them in stock.
Thanks for the post!
